Comes from brown cows, and not Toyotas.
This engine has been sat for several years, it looks like the oil is a fragrant mix of fuel, old oil and something that might be coolant or condensation.
Will have a deeper look inside once I’ve got some more parts storage trays to keep track of all the components. The valve train all looks nice and clean, but who knows what else lurks inside...
Oh and the engine crane decided it wasn’t up to the job, so that’s an added bonus.

7 years seems long enough for them to have had a chance to separate, but it doesn’t appear to have worked out that way at all, huh? So what’s going on here? I s it the glycol that keeps the water and oil mixed together ?

No idea. Apparently it had run shortly before I bought it a few weeks ago, but the car it was from had been sat for a long time previous to that. I did not see the car that it was taken from.
The plan was to rebuild
anyway, and it was very cheap.
