A rare case of insomnia kept me from getting any sleep. At about 3:30am I decided not to fight it and I turned the lights on. For reasons that my sleep-addled mind cannot comprehend, I found myself looking at a completely alien 3D modeling program called “sketchup” on my laptop.
Fast-forward 5 hours...
What do you think of my new place? It sure came a long way.
IAbout 5 hours total. I could see this becoming a massive time sink

So you realize of course that the next step is to convert it into a Cities: Skylines mod so that you can see it in a city (with a variety of cars parked in the driveway).

Looks great . . . but WHAT’S IN THE GARAGE?!
I love cars and all, but I might put the house on the beach side of things for the views.

Make groups. The walls are a group, the window, the door, the windows

Okay, I’ll work on that. Any other tips you wish you could have told yourself starting out? I’m going to try spending an hour a day messing around in here, maybe jump to another program after a while

So how do you start something like this? Do you make the roadways and terrain, then add the buildings, or...?

its years or practice. i use a lot of groups and layers. i started with our property because I has the cad out line to start with. then i used google earth to measure and trace stuff. then the buildings. the ground is one group and its own layer. each building is its own group and they are all on one layer. then th e trees.
Our building, each floor is a layer. the floors that are the same are a component so if i change one, they all change. same with the windows, for all the ones that are the same, if i change one, th e y all change.
