Item #1: Infiniti made a hard-top convertible version of the G37. Saw one on the road this morning, and I feel like I should have known that these exist, but somehow, here I am today, just learning about them...

Kinja'd!!!

Item #2: Nothing good happens on the internet after midnight. Especially when I start interacting with people that I’m not familiar with at 2am. I should know better by now, and yet...

These are diamonds in the rough if you ask me. A solid mechanical platform and a nice tight convertible .

There was even an IPL version of that. I have probably seen that once in my life

I saw it from a few car lengths back and thought it was a Lexus SC430 for a second, and thought, “Wow, haven’t seen one of those in awhile”... and then realized it wasn’t a Lexus!

Nice! I’m not a big fan of convertibles, but I like that these are hard-tops.

The classic scene from Three Kings — there’s an ongoing debate about whether Lexus made a convertible, then they come across Hussein’s private stash...and there’s an Infiniti Convertible. At the time, the only one Infiniti ever made.

This is the best reference I could find:

https://www.imcdb.org/v004870.html

And the G version is still a unicorn, but not as much as the original M30 convertible...

Stay away from them. The tops are problematic and very expensive to repair. The hydraulics alone are near 10k new. Hinges are 7k a piece and are frequently bent when individuals leave objects in the trunk and try to open the top. Ahhh good times. There are a few parts that are no longer available. Top control modules are in short supply, hydraulics are restricted component. Last I checked there was 1 . In the world.

LOL! Convertibles are not for me! I have thought about grabbing a G37x sedan sometime in the future. That, or a 2nd gen GS.

I’ve always felt that Three Kings was underrated. I’m glad to know others out there like it (or at least remember it).

I love any movie that’s both dark and hilarious at the same time. That’s one of the best, IMO.

2013, I must clarify it’s got only 36K miles so can’t say how it will hold up with higher mileage.

Leather is good, metal trims are good, All buttons are holding up.

But, t rim pieces coming off due to failing adhesive is a well documented issue.

There have been complaints about the sunroof squeaks and rattles but haven’t faced any. The trim from the inside is coming off but has never had any leaks because all seals everywhere are holding up good.

I don’t have it yet but t his is a common problem on high-traffic button areas:

Good stuff to know, thank you!

Does your consume oil? I know the G35's did, to varying degrees. There’s also a special oil you can get that will stop the oil consumption issue, i believe. But you have to use that oil exclusively.

Nope. If I can recall that was a problem with the VQ35 not the Vq37. Forums say use genuine Nissan Ester based oil, I take it to Nissan and they use Mobil 1 Synthetic. Just follow the manual based on your driving habits. My commute is 5 miles one way mostly thru traffic and so I follow the serve use maintenance schedule and oil change every 4K miles.

Fantastic, thank you.

What about tires? I’m sure a lot relies on your alignment, but have you had to replace them yet? If so, how much did that run?

More than tires, it likes to ea t brake rotors. I have had them resurfaced twice then fronts replaced under warranty. Brake pads were glazed once and I got them fixed since I had it s

It’s high power, RWD until it slips AWD so expect some rear wear like any sports sedan.

I posted about my experience with tires:  https://oppositelock.kinja.com/michelin-pilot-sport-a-s-3-1000-mile-review-the-hype-1831774619

No Lexus convertible, my friend. Infiniti only.

Still a great movie. So much fun to watch.

Oh great! A fucking tank! That should send us on our way!
