Thank god it’s a separate piece from the headlight assembly & an easy replacement

Hooray for separate corners. I guess we can thank the DOT for that, since they require the amber and this was the easiest solution.

My current car and my previous car just have (or had) amber bulbs in clear housings.

Either way, you still need an amber reflector on the front bumper or corner. A lot of makers just did a “2-for-1" like above. Others put the amber reflector down in the bumper as a standalone. I used “ illegal” clear corners with an amber bulb.

If you didn’t already notice the amber reflector thing , now you’ll never unsee it :)

well, this is bound to happen when you don’t use your indicators!

Beats $2,200 for a single headlight housing on the Volvo X C90....

That one just stuck out in my mind as a reason not to buy an overly complex car. Another Oppo recently had to replace one.

considered it, would rather just have it sealed right. Last thing I need is water hitting those connectors and wreaking havoc on something electrical in the car.

jeeeeeeez. I feel like complexity is inevitable as cars become more... well... complex, ya know?

Ha!  Weren’t we just discussing this?  My E46 headlights are fogged beyond the point of reason at this stage....  another questionable plastics bit that hasn’t weathered well.

BMW’s always thinking... Sight Glass!

That’s true.  In a “normal” car the heat from the use of indicators would burn off any accumulating water vapor.  In a BMW that effect is not possible...

Apparently the headlight covers are super easy to replace! No heat-baking needed

Really? I need to look into it.... thought my only option was the “buffer compound” or a set of these at $1100 a side ...

may depend on the year, but at least my 2002 I know I can literally just replace the front clear covers without even having to remove the assembly
