how do you do that? I think it has one of those proximity keys, but still. My wive’s van has it and i’ve never done it.

It’s very easy to double click the start button and then walk away.

I’ve seen people do that with hybrids before.

My M3 will turn itself off after a few minutes of the key not being inside. It was on E and I went to get gas and was not warm, so I left it running while I filled it up, it had turned off before I got back inside.

From the looks of it, he also didn’t actually park the car? lol

If it has engine start/stop, maybe the engine stopped as he parked and caused a brain fart where he thought he shut it down. Walks away and it starts back up a few minutes later.

sometimes people forget to press the start/stop button

it does have start stop, would it really spontaneously restart after a set amount of time? That seems like a dumb setting if its true

Or not hit the button hard/long enough

Did he leave the keys in the car? If you look at the top gear America special the range of some are quite far

Absolutely. Accessories can't run on battery power forever. The engine would start to keep battery voltage up.

I was at a baseball game on Wednesday, and in the lot there was a newer BMW (diesel i believe) running with no one anywhere close to it.

I think you can just drive off if the car was left running, it won’t shut down just because the key is no longer in range. But then once it shuts down, it can’t be restarted without the key. So only a minor theft deterrent, and you are screwed if you run back into the house leaving it running, and inadvertently leave your key in the house and go somewhere . Another of the annoyances with these keys is that you also have to be sure that you have all the keys with you when you leave it unattended; I need to make sure my wife’s key isn’t in her bag if I’ve got my key and we decide to leave her bag (and potentially her key) in the trunk of her Mercedes C-Class . Also, when I’m washing it I can’t have it on me, or the car endlessly locks and re-locks.

Real easy. Park running car, get out with prox keys in pocket, shut door and press lock button, continue with your life not worried about your car if you have to run in and grab something and come back.
I do it all the time, run back into the office and grab something I forgot or whatever.

Most cars with RFID fobs will keep running if you walk away, they just can’t be restarted unless the fob is fully inside the car.

yea but he walked up to the office and parked (his ass) he was shocked when he heard it was still running.
