On paper, I should absolutely hate it. I generally dislike other people. I hate crowds of other people. I hate the party/club scene/culture. I don’t like sleazy, douchey, loud, or otherwise obnoxious people. However, I love Las Vegas (for 2-3 days max). I can’t explain it. I guess it’s because there really is something there for everyone. So, that’s why tonight, Mrs. Humpkins and I are flying to Vegas for the weekend. You see, it’s my 35th birthday Friday . It’s also my sister’s 40th b’day soon. So we , my sister, her girlfriend, my MIL, my parents, and some friends are all going to Vegas for the weekend.
We’re pretty good when we’re there. We get a nice suite at the Encore (we tend to stick around the Encore/Wynn as far as gambling because it’s usually less crowded/chaotic as other casinos). We stick to our gambling budget, we eat well, we drink well, we shop well, we find the entertainment we want. My only gripe is the fact that the flight we booked was scheduled to leave O’Hare at 8:00 pm and arrive close to 10:00 pm, Vegas time. They rescheduled it to leave at 10:00 pm and arrive just before midnight. The afternoon flight was sold out so no change. Oh well.
At any rate, have a wonderful weekend.

MIL and Vegas. Hmmmm. That sounds interesting...
I went in March with my fiance. We didn’t spend much time on the strip but we were able rent an awesome house just 3 minutes from it. We spent most of our time site seeing and visiting her old friends who still live there.

72 hours is the perfect Vegas. I am out at least twice a year (usually work related) and unless I’m playing golf or have some other off-strip activities planned, no reason to be there more than two or three days.
The flight from the east coast sucks, but there’s nothing you can do about it.
Last time out we ate at Bavettes’s. It was awesome....old school, great food and drinks. You’d never guess, but it’s in the Park MGM.

I booked a trip to Vegas for my bachelor party. It was going to be me and 3 of my friends, but my wife made me back out at the last minute after she found out about it. Guess you could say she wears the pants. At least I still have my testicle. I call him Hans. As in Hans Solo. Man, I’m funny

Three days is the max , but like you I’m a person that generally doesn’t like people but enjoys an occasional trip to Vegas. I think it’s mostly the food with a side of gambling.

For me it’s the food, the drinks, and definitely the gambling. Although, these are all things I can do locally, and do well , so...?? Can’t really explain why I like it so much.

Vegas is exactly as much fun as the amount of money you are willing to sink into it and no more.

We thought about doing a joint trip before our wedding, not technically bachelor/bachelorette party. For whatever reason we ended up not.

You get three days of sensory overload and then you can go back to a nice quiet home.

This is very true.

I’m the same way, been twice and can confirm 3 days is too many...but I like it for some reason.

I’ll have to keep that in mind. I think we have all our dinners planned, but you never know.

And she’s severely ADHD, so it’s interesting, to say the least. Otherwise, we all get along well, so no issues. Plus, my mother is a retired special education teacher, so whenever she’s there she does a good job of keeping the MIL in check.

The longest I’ve been is 4 days. I think 3 is my max because on that trip, the fourth day, I was so over it.

It’s like a massive theme
park. I don’t like being there, but I can appreciate the strange sensation scale that all of the very large buildings in the strip give when compared to the tiny urban sprawl that otherwise dominates the city.

I went for
3 days the first time,
5 days the second time. S
econd to last day of trip 2
the sensory overload activated around early afternoon...t
he last day just
sucked as there was nothing left we wanted to do and it was hot
. We got married that trip
and went to Long Beach for 3 days after so it turned out ok in the end,
of the trip that is...the
marriage not
so much
. I really liked SoCal though...I can see why people suffer it so willingly.

It really is, and it’s surreal that there’s Vegas surrounded by miles and miles of nothing. I can handle 3 days at most, one time I was there for 4 and on the fourth I was over it and ready to get the hell home.

SoCal is a (general) place that when I’ve been, I’ve always enjoyed it, but I find that I could never see myself living there. Mrs. Humpkins and I have the freedom with our jobs to move pretty much anywhere (if we decide to leave Chicago) and California has come up a few times but we quickly realize we wouldn’t want to after all.

my brief visit to Chicago was pleasant making it a favorite, but all things equal I think I’d take the weather.

It’s funny because I never gamble whenever I go to Vegas. I have been there twice now since its an easy drive over from LA (if you leave at the right times). The first time my girlfriend and I stayed in an airbnb about 20 minutes from the strip. Was kind of just tiring and hectic from walking around every casino and being on our feet all day. Didnt plan too well so we didnt do anything other than just walk around and eat some okay food. Second trip was a lot better, we stayed at the Cosmopolitan with a good rate on a room in the off season/winter, spent a lot of time just enjoying the balcony and relaxing, saw the Beatles Circque show, and ate really well. I also hate people, clubs, gratuitous drinking, and all of that; one would think id hate vegas. But doing it that way was just a really nice vacation and I would gladly go back. You couldnt pay me to go there when its hot again!!!

While I can’t blame you, I prefer the weather here to most places (that aren’t fa
rther North).

That’s the thing, isn’t it? Plan it right and it can be wonderful. I think it’s not going to be too hot this weekend (hotter than I’d prefer, but not as hot as it could be) so I’m thinking it’ll be tolerable.

We had a suite at the Bellagio for a couple days there last week. I’m not really a Vegas kinda guy - but I love the spectacle. Everybody needs to spend a couple days in Vegas at least once in their life.

I’m in the Philly region and enjoy 4 seasons too...but age is making the worst of them worse!

Even in January, we saw around 80 degrees as a high. That is pretty nice weather for just relaxing and lounging plus it certainly got quite cold at night so it was nice in the mornings. But yeah at least its not July/August lol

We lucked out. It was high 60s to low 70s Friday and Sunday. Saturday was a hot mid 80s. All in all, it was quite pleasant.

We don’t really seem to have a true 4 seasons anymore. Spring has been nonexistent the last few years, summer drags on, and winter takes up about 7 months. I still enjoy it though.

this year we actually have a spring here...still going. 8o, sunny and low hu midity today. Usually it’s just 90 and humid already.

We did not. We were highs in 40s well into May. We’ve had
the occasional spring like day with highs in the 60s/70s, but it’s been either low 50s or jump into summer, mid 80s. Hell, we had measurable snowfall the second week of May.
