Nice spec with the manual. But I have to say, the new RAM, specifically the interior is so much better. Even in base model trim I was rather impressed with them.

After navigating around town in my rental Silverado, I’m not sure I want to keep driving a vehicle this big. Parking is such a pain in the buttocks.

I looked up it up because I remember reading that miatas have ( one of?) the shortest throws. Its only 40mm. I wonder how long a shift in that thing is.

That R am is 2 59.4" (21.6 feet!) long. The rental Silverado is 231.8" (19.3 feet!) long.

I don't know off hand, I'd have to look it up. I do know it's 6” shorter than my ProMaster, but the ProMaster has an excellent backup camera and parking sensors and you sit so close to the front that it's easier for me to park. When I go from that thing into my truck it's more of a challenge than I thought it would be.

I had a rental F-150 for a couple of weeks. It was easier to park than the Silverado. I think the F-150 turning radius must be tighter. It felt smaller on the outside even though the crew cab was definitely bigger than the Silverado on the inside.

I’ll get used to it eventually. The biggest problem is going from one beast to the other directly. I do a lot of 33-point turns in parking lots at the moment because I refuse to be in one of those “look how bad this asshole parked” pics floating around the internet.

Isn’t that more due to the fact you can’t order the high output motor with the manual and not a de-tuned version only available with the manual?

Unfortunately they get rewarded for it. 3500s are by and large fleet vehicles. We tried putting manual Cummins Ram 3500 s in our fleet. They were awesome and I loved them. After two morons that refused to learn to properly drive manuals destroyed the transmission on more than one occasion we replaced the trucks autos rather than replacing the morons .

no, the manual simply can’t handle more than that much torque. single countershaft manual transmissions are pretty much capped at about 700 lb-ft. you need big, heavy double countershaft boxes like in class 7-8 trucks to handle much more than that.
automatics are simply stronger these days.
