Now I really need to shop for a car for her haha.

You mean time for you and misses Golem to find a new car. Hand me downs are perfectly acceptable forms of first cars. :)

Are you telling us to stay off the sidewalks then?

Nash Metropolitan.

Yeah right. Like I could find one in my budget.

Nah. she’s an excellent driver. Definitely an excellent driver.

A girl I knew in high school had one. Being so small, it only took 6 guys to pick it up. That little car ended up in the strangest places.

The original plan had been to hand down the Soul but my wife wants to keep it I want to keep Forest. Also, car payments suck.

I’ve seen extraordinarily shitty ones as low as $1200 or so.

There’s a 1957 Buick for $4500 CAD near me in decent shape? :P
![]() 05/20/2019 at 11:13 |

Is that like a pile of parts vaguely shaped like a Nash Metro?
![]() 05/20/2019 at 11:13 |

Perfect! I’ll be right there.

My brother just got his permit. I have already decreed that he is NOT allowed to learn stick in my car.

Classic big brother move.

It would be solid enough she wouldn’t even notice the things she inevitably
hits! :P

If that thing hit a modern car it would be completely obliterated.

Welcome to the P arents with D riving C hildren support group.
My daughter inherited my mother’s Outback. My son, now that he’s getting close to getting his permit, is angling for a truck.
Both have some experience driving a stick, but neither will be driving my WRX anytime soon.

I’m being cautious because this is what happened when I tried giving my sister driving lessons:

When I suggested LittleGolem learn stick she started to panic so I won’t be pushing that haha.

Probably, I’m just being stereotypical :P

My wife’s first car was an 1980-something O ldsmobile D elta 88. I had to dissuade her from feeling bigger is better and safer.

The convertible top was trashed, but it was allegedly running. Allegedly. It had portions that were that ghastly mold-looking white that comes from decayed rattlecan.

A lot of older folks around here still have that feeling I think...
![]() 05/20/2019 at 12:36 |

I mean it makes sense logically that the more car around you the safer you’d be.
![]() 05/20/2019 at 12:43 |

No the modern car would be. She’d just bounce around inside it in the process.

Ah the old crash an engine/transmission-less Bel-Air into a loaded Malibu.
Seeings the drivetrain is a key portion of the Bel-Air’s “structure”, let’s cut out 1/2 the Malibu’s structure to match and see how they fair.

This says it had a 3.9L 6

I’ve seen the result of those old boats crashing into modern cars first hand, generally the modern car crumples like the tin can it is, meanwhile the old car can be driven home. Most spot on comment in there: The test was performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which is funded, as its name subtly suggests, by the insurance industry.
Doesn’t matter to me regardless, I’ll continue buying what I enjoy and enjoying what I buy, I’d rather die happy than live boring.

Yeah I follow the logic. It’s good that you and the misses are content with your rides. Car payments do suck. Our only newly purchased car will be paid off in a month or two. So if history tells me anything.... time to go car shopping.... I kid, but that has been how it’s been a few times. Mainly for family changes dictating more seating capacity. We will likely end up getting my MIL a minivan to cart my kids around. Can’t justify her buying a vehicle because of our needs. That’s not fair to burden her with that. So I guess it truly is time to go car shopping again.

Yes it is my friend . Yes it is.

Well, not that you’ll know of... of course. I’m reminded of a song, something about parents going away on a weeks vacation.... :)

:)
I suppose they might be able to figure out how to hotwire it.
