If I hadn’t just committed to a $ 3500 transmission rebuild, I’d be all over this. Talk me out of it, Oppo hivemind. If it helps, I’m not interested in fixing up a project; I’d definitely get this checked out first.

A friend of a friend just offered to sell me his last night for $1000. Its condition is a bit more rough and is over 200k in miles but....for $1k to get myself another Jeep with a 4 liter and manual trans....
I’m very tempted. So very tempted.
If you’re interested too (like more than me) I can get you more details and pics

If you buy it and are willing to drive to Louisville I could hook you up with our group’s windshield guy. Also thank God I’m in the $500-$1000 market right now. That thing is amazing for the price.

For $2,500, no. For $1,500, maybe. My experience with XJs tells me that once you see the rot coming through the rocker panels, the floors have already mostly dissolved. That one’s not exceptionally clean, there’s battle damage on the front, and it’s a fairly low-spec model. At 165k, it’s got a lot of life left in it. You might give it a mark-up in price for the manual. ‘97-’01 three-pedal XJs are uncommon, and therein lies all of the value of this rig.

You’re even fairly close to me. Sure, post a pic or three .
I also am fairly color-biased, which is one reason this appeals to me so much.

Manual, 4 doors (I’m ready for 4 after living with 2 on my LJ), 4wd, good color. It checks a lot of boxes.

$2,500 isn’t a ton of money, so if it’s not a Flintstone mobile, go for it. I have PTSD from dealing with rusty shitboxes for years when I lived in Minnesota and I’ve since conditioned myself to run screaming whenever I see any sign of it.

Unfortunately it’s a lot of money for me at the moment. Two months from now would be much better.

Why does it have to be white?
Still, you’re right, $1000 is mighty tempting.

bet I could get $3500 for it here in the Mid-Atlantic...

I’m not even looking at jeeps right now and $1k is a steal for this rig!

When you leave your dreaded Portland existence, you will -- in your most private moments -- miss the access to rust-free cars.

Oh, most definitely! Florida gave me mostly rust free cars, but the humidity and salty air could cause problems, and the heat ruined interiors. Cars just don't age here.

Pre-facelift with airbag and a stamped valve cover. Yup.

I’m bummed they didn’t carry over the Illuminated ignition.

It looks like the local one is about to be sold, I dithered too long. Let your friend know that I’d like to see it and I’ll have cash in hand , but I wouldn’t be able to make it there until next weekend (June 1st).
