Why did you jump??? Last time I checked, boats float! And even ones still connected to trailers will at least float long enough for you to casually depart. *facepalm*

This is like the marine version of WHY DID YOU TURN
edit- I guess there was no one in the car, and he was trying to get back in and stop it in time? Still.....

Castanet is such an odd name for a news site. It always bugs me

So many, many questions (parking brake?) but N umber 1 is, why was he in the boat when it was on the ramp? You get things ready before you back down the ramp. That’s just basic boat launching etiquette.

The fact that no one is in the car confuses me even more.
![]() 05/16/2019 at 12:38 |

Clearly he has no clue what he’s doing...I think that pretty much covers all your questions.

It started as a Kelowna buy/sell
message board that
went onto news.. I think they just got bought by big news, Glacier Media I believe..

How does that happen? Did the locked tires lose traction on the wet cement?
![]() 05/16/2019 at 12:44 |

S elf-launching, I guess. If the ramp isn’t busy, it’s no big deal. But umm I would recommend a wheel chock.

Looks like he was hoping for Jesus to take the wheel. He almost met him after jumping in front of his moving vehicle.

Don’t prep your boat on the f’in ramp. The ramp is for launching and loading only. I award zero sympathy points and may God have mercy on your soul.

That video always makes me sick and yet, I believe everyone was more or less OK as in, not dead or maimed. Amazingly. It’s like, “oh, THAT’S why they put padded upholstery on the insides of the cockpit.”

A family friend did this once many years ago. Well, not the jumping out of the boat and almost getting run over part, just the dunking the family conversion van into Lake Michigan part. He didn’t use the parking brake, and the park pawl on the transmission broke. In it went!
![]() 05/16/2019 at 12:49 |

If he was self-launching, he would have had to leave the car there while he docked the boat. If it’s not a busy ramp, this would be fine. In theory, that is.

He’s got the leg down on the ramp, you can hear it dragging...
![]() 05/16/2019 at 12:54 |

But still...it’s like the vehicle is in neutral.

This was at my local ramp 2 years ago:

I agree... I wonder if he was relying only on the parking brake, and it failed? It looked like it was moving fast.
![]() 05/16/2019 at 13:22 |

I think he was jumping off so he can get in his vehicle and stop it from continue to slide down the ramp.

Offffffff!
![]() 05/16/2019 at 14:25 |

Fair enough! Still, I totally couldn’t see that having any other result than either getting run over or beaten up by your own car.

Except it is a plug in hybrid, not an EV.

i mean it has batteries and an electric motor so close enough I guess.

Eh, it just kind of annoys me when the news tries to sensationalize that EVs are terrible. Had this been a gas or diesel vehicle, they wouldn’t have even mentioned it.

Hmmm... maybe he should have put it
back into the water to put out the fire...

Yeah... I took my boating license and took the studying seriously avoid shit like that.
The driver was a complete idiot. T
hey are REALLY lucky nobody got thrown overboard... which could have lead to serious injury or death if the person came in contact with the propeller.

This made it to the Jalop FP just now by the way, haha.
It does include an explanation of what happened, though. I guess the guy had his drive trimmed down (or rather, he didn’t trim it up before pulling it). So he heard it scraping, got out to trim it up, and didn’t put the car in park or set the brake - the skeg at the bottom of the drive on the boat was holding it all in place. As soon as he trimmed it up, it was all over.
Still, wow.
