Friend of mine let me know a dealership near me has a 2017 Yamaha SCR950 for sale. Brand new, never titled. They’re offering crazy discounts and will add some cash value onto a trade-in (i.e. offer much closer to a private sale price). I could walk in with the KLR and the check to pay off the last of the loan and walk out with a brand new bike......It’s tempting.

Our bike friend Peter Black isn’t a fan of these. That being said, I’ve seen them on sale new for under $4k which is dirt cheap for a new bike.

He also isn’t a fan of the KLR, which I adore. But they’re everywhere and this might be a chance to try something new and weird with minimal impact financially. This might be one of those moments where down the line people ask “Remember when Yamaha did _____?” and I get to go “Yep, I owned one for a while there.”
And yep, the one I’m looking at is over 50% off MSRP of 8-ish grand when you factor in the trade bucks. Similar to how I traded in the FiST for a FoST and got a lower monthly payment without a penny out of pocket, I’m hoping I can score another one of those hyper rare win-win deals at a dealership.

I love these, and wish I was in a position financially to buy one.

I like the bolt. Ostensibly. But the KLR is a much more comfortable bike so by the time I mod the SCR to be where I want.....I basically have a lower, heavier KLR. I am still on the hunt for something different though. A local powersports dealer has a BMW G650X X-challenge andI am intrigued enough to stop by...
