Full of a bunch of people who think they are the absolute authority on what people should like when it comes to certain cars or engine swaps. where apparently “let people enjoy things” is a refrain only for plebs who don’t know anything about cars. It makes me thankful that despite the kinja problems, Oppo Kinja has a much better and inclusive community

like church denominations, it’s nice that we have so many flavours of enthusiast group to suit all sorts; jalopnik FP, oppositelock, slacc, the multiple jalopnik and oppo related FB groups, and of course all the other sites like drivetribe, drive etc etc.

I of course subscribe to the only good denomination, the one of mostly loving all terrible car choices, the one true oppositelock right here on the terrible kinja

It sure is! I occasionally do drive-bys and I'm routinely impressed by how completely different Facebook Oppo is. It reads like Jalopnik FP but sometimes worse?

I’m gonna take this truck engine and put it BACK into a truck!

Though honestly, calling the Viper V10 a truck motor because it’s based on the LA is a bit of a stretch. The LA was a bread and butter engine that they stuck in whatever. It’s kind of like calling a 2JZ a truck motor- technically true, but not really.

Its interesting regularly following the three groups: kinja oppo, FB oppo (created by former members of the kinja page that were unhappy with the culture here) , and then the Manual Elitist Jerks FB page (created by former members of the FB oppo group who again were unhappy with that culture ). All very different for sure. I enjoy the shear amount of people in the FB groups but yeah beyond shitposting, I dont usually get much value out of either of those groups.

Kinja is clearly an effective moderator of opinions.

That said... that’s a hell of an odd choice of engine swap from my perspective. Mind you...I once raised the prospect of putting a Land Rover V8 and transmission in an 80 Series so my perspective might be skewed.

The internet in general is toxic, and the jalop FP comments are that way as well. I haven’t visited the FP or Facebook at all in forever. There’s a certain charm to this oppo community in that there’s many people from different walks of life of many different ages that are willing to talk cars and share shitposts here and there. At least there’s an oppo out there for people who want to have unnecessary internet confrontations .

I am not entirely sure what it is. It might have been specific posts or posters that turned people away? The way moderation was handled at some point? Its hard for me to judge since I am so easy-going and content with how both work . I just prefer the kinja platform over using facebook since I can see my post history.

I was going more on “ooh Viper is LA based, LA truck motor, so Viper truck motor.” My point was that the LA isn’t a truck motor, it’s a motor that Chrysler put in literally everything. It’s no more a truck motor than a slant six, a Windsor, or an SBC.

I do love me a Vipertruck, though.
