Right in the wallet!
Also , I rolled over 97,500 miles today. Will I keep long enough to break 100,000? Stay tuned!

Most places have 91 at best.

Mostly they’re just different. I mean, the octane calculation isn’t, but the additives and thus results are, somewhat. Canadian fuel usually uses less ethanol in the premium grades (good!) but is basically what we in Washington would consider winter mix (bad!) all year because of different regulations ( frozen north, y’know ).

Our 94 has no ethanol and comes from the US though?

Yeah, and I was gonna do a total debadge, too. Check out this render I made!

People who know the term “shooting brake” will know what your car is.

Friend of mine picked up this reasonable condition sedan for $3000 today. Better shape than my sportcross was in when I got it, with a LOT less rust. Even with 190k to my 100k miles it feels just as solid. Very impressed.

Very nice. How is the Sportcross doing these days?
![]() 05/14/2019 at 00:27 |

I’d take that price; I’ve been paying $3.89 for 92 for at least a week.

The Vee-Fiddy takes premium?! Oh maaaaan

By “less” ethanol in this case you can presumably read “none,” but also presumably Canadian regulatory requirements for detergents and other additives still apply, although I don’t know for sure. Normal premium is still up to 10% ethanol here—it’s about equally difficult to find ethanol-free (like, for old cars) as higher octane ratings. Most people think winter additives provide worse performance and fuel economy in favor of greater volatility and separation resistance in cold temperatures (read: easier cold starts), and bitch about how long the “winter mix” season lasts in our temperate climate. I assume that people in the Yukon feel differently about that one.
DISCLAIMER: whatever the farthest thing is from a chemist, I’m that. But I have
had a
reason to temporarily develop some familiarity with Canadian and American fuel and emissions regs, once or twice, and remember some vague bits of it. If a fuel chemist who knows the Canadian and American rules wants to come by and clear this up I would welcome them and also give them my email address so they can explain it again for money the
next time
I need it professionally.

My IS is at almost the exact same miles
I am thinking I will keep it forever, I like it more as time goes on, my only complaint is premium gas and not so great MPG.

It’s got a turbo!
![]() 05/14/2019 at 00:37 |

Agreed. I get 20-22 mpg. On fuelly, most people are getting under 20 so it could be worse.
![]() 05/14/2019 at 00:39 |

Ohhhhhhh. Oh well you sure like it, right?

I have grown quite fond of the thing, even though it’s now stranded me and I haven’t even owned it for three months. But it’s sooooo much more comfortable than my last car, and pretty fun to drive too. But my last car was an automatic 2006 Corolla, so maybe anything would seem comfy & fun by comparison.

What caused the breakdown?
![]() 05/14/2019 at 00:58 |

It was a pretty silly reason: the steering column lock got jammed. Tapping on it with a hammer allowed it to move enough to send the “all good” message to the ECU. Apparently this is so common that Volvo ended up removing that part in a later model year.

That sounds terrifying

Yeah; AMG Tech was the one actually doing the tapping because, in his words, “I don’t want you to pummel yourself in the face with the airbag going off”

Ya, but you live near Seattle, your house probably cost about $2.85 bajillion. So it evens out.
This house is 2 minutes from our house. We sold our 1400sq ft duplex / condo for this last summer. When I don’t have to worry about spending $83,000 a month for a Se attle-area house payment I can pay for a new truck.

It exists. Drives great. It kills me that I don’t have a place to work on it and repair the rust that is slowly attacking my rocker panels.
