Only one of these comes with a manual transmission and it’s not even the yellow sports car.
Toyota: we want to give enthusiasts the car they want.
Enthusiasts: we want a clutch pedal.
Toyota: I can’t hear you over the sounds of how you can just remove the block off plates and make these holes into functional vents.
Also after Doug’s review I actually likethat the car is over engineered. That it’s a chassis and engine capable of far more than it’s factory power. That means that it’s a nice quick “reasonably priced” sports car that some one could daily drive. But for those that want to, it can be turned into a monster with a few mods. But for God’s that are satisfied with less power it’s a cheaper car that isn’t totally impractical. While at he same time being capable of becoming an 800hp demon. Much like eh mk4.

I guess one can hope they end up launching the 30i version with the 4-cylinder B48. Maybe that’s the “Release” edition like back then for Scion, designed for tuner swaps.
Then you get a 2JZ Supra with a manual , I get cheap B48 replacements when my N20 inevitably chew its timing chain, lol.

I thought the Spec versions were the tuner ones for Scion, or was that just gen 1 tC

Look at it this way: Supra starts at $49k. Undercuts all other similar cars by $5k or more.
Jaguar F-Type (4-cylinder Jaaaguaren’t) starts at $60k.
Z4 30i (4 cylinderZ) starts at $51k.
Base Cayman (“Mid-Engine Subaru”) starts at $56k.
If Toyota & BMW add a 6MT to the lineup, the Supra is down to just one true competitor:
Then again, the Corvette goes mid-engine this year so the Supra might be in a class of its own very soon.

Ha, ain’t that the truth.
I think a manual will come, and the ZF 8 speed isn’t getting enough credit for just how good it is (by us, not the reviewers). Would I spend my own money on one? Eh, would be hard to pass over a GT350

Mmm depends what you consider competition. I can think of many others in the price bracket that are comparable

I guess I was just listing “2-seat, RWD sportscars” within that price range.
What would you consider competition? Curious to know what you’d cross-shop.

Is hat the trans in it? Doug Said it had a torque convert.

It’s a torque converter but it’s the ZF 8 speed seen in lots of models.

Mustang. limiting it to two seats is nonsense. Yellow, manual trans, 130 more horsepower, $35,500. if the presence of a vestigial back seat offends you, a rear-seat delete kit is way, way cheaper than the $13,000 step up to the Supra. plus you got more space to store your track shit.

Oh I thought the zf8 was a dual clutch

Also a few hundred pounds heavier

what’s a few hundred pounds when we’re just arguing about cars none of us are going to buy?
