Pray for my wallet. Anyways, that’s a problem for.... Tomorrow! Today is for a hammocking. I found an awesome hidden spot on lake Washington last evening just in time for the 9pm(!) sunset, and today I’m exploring central Washington to find another good spot.

Beautiful spot. I need to get a camping hammock.
My Volvo is getting fixed this week too!

Highly reccomended. This was $20 on Amazon and it ha s survived some serious abuse and heavy use. I think I’m on year three?
I’m sad I didn’t go on the trip but it was kind of cool being able to “ride along” via the Discord group! Glad you figured it out, and go figure the Volvo is what breaks down

I did not know the Volvo was broken, but it’s good that it will be fixed soon!

Drove the V70 back from California with no issues, let it sit for a week and on startup there was a cylinder one misfire. It's sat about two months since then, and the easy fixes didn't seem to help

Something in the injector?

Maybe? I'm just going to have someone look at it. Worst case I sell it to recoup repair costs and still come out ahead, but I'd really like to daily it at least for a little while

Unfortunately not. The way I'd want to do it would realistically cost about $20,000 including the new engine/total rebuild and yeah... That's not gonna fly Might be bike time this summer tho

bike is a reasonable alternative, I'm on board with this

Seems like the steering wheel lock has failed? When I tried to start it said “s teering l ocked; t urn w heel.” When I did, the message changed to “s teering f ailure; se rvice r equired.” I tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, to no effect. GMCTavish found an FCP Euro blog post on fixing this, so with WrongWheelDrive’s help I started removing dash panels to expose the steering column. That’s when we found that the torx screw in the FCP post was one of those “torque until the head shears off” thingies on mine. Then the rest of the group arrived and AMGTech was able to get it to start by tapping the steering lock with Longtime Lurker’s deadblow hammer while I turned the key.
I drove it all the way home without taking the key out of the ignition (left it on accessory when refueling). I’ll see if the hammer t rick works again to get it to the shop; if not, I’ll have to use a AAA tow.

Sucky! You couldn’t have picked a better group to have a breakdown with, though!

Yup. Viewed one way, you could say that it was unlucky that I broke down in the most remote part of my drive, in another country, on a Sunday. Viewed another way, you could say that it was very lucky that I broke down with a group of friendly helpful people with knowledge, skills, and tools to spare.

It could’ve gone a lot worse! Like that time the heater hose exploded on my Suburban a week after I got back from a trip to Las Vegas and back... I shudder to think of losing all of my coolant in about 10 seconds while hundreds of miles from civilization. I’ll call that one lucky!
