We lost my close friend and fellow dispatcher last week, and today they fired another one. He was an older guy, mid-60s, and the nicest person. Always on time, never called off. But frigging useless. Always taking five times longer than everyone else to get stuff done, and always avoiding the hard tasks.

I hate to see someone get canned, but it’s probably for the greater good. Whenever people found out they were scheduled to work with him there was always that ‘oh God’ moment knowing that you were pretty much going to be working by yourself. I wish him only the best in his future career, but I’m also relieved that the dead wood has finally been chopped away.

I’ve shit canned a few operators, while it sucks for them, it’s so nice when a major problem you used to have just disappears.

We, have gone through an exodus the last year. But it’s been the slowest I remember. They usually come back, but when we’re busy, so is everyone else. Some aren’t welcome back, others - it will depend on the circumstance...

hey we have one of those

oh wait no we dont... he’s an annoying bigmouth almost a lways 10-20 minutes late (when he isnt he’ll be on the toilet for the first 20 or so minutes of the shift) he works slow as shit but always takes all the very easiest orders so he spends his day giving people shit for only being on their first work order whilst hes already on his 5th ( yeah dickhead thats coz your order was tightening 2 screws and testing an already made boiler...how’d you do that wrong anyway?)

on top of that hes constantly bitching about the work and never does overtime

The mints remind me of a problem I was having with people stealing my bottled water. Now, whenever I bring in a few bottles I open them up and take a swig before putting them in the fridge . Hey, if you want my backwash, help yourself. So far not a single bottle has gone missing this year...

Sounds identical to how I got promoted to “Vice-president/plant manager/head of operations/etc...”. Old guy in his 70s. Never worked in a chemical plant before. Basically flipped off OSHA and used a “kindly old man” voice to attempt to deflect and hide from blame. He never really worked a day on that job AFAIK and was genuinely stunned when he was fired. Motherfucker had the gall to chew out people left and right for coming up with new ideas but then shrugged his shoulders and acted like it was impossible to ee why the pant lost thousands of dollars every month and we were never on time for anything. Ever.

Fuck, one day I came back from a new product trial to see the crew working on a production batch for internal stock when we had three orders scheduled to go out for different products over the course of the week. Attempted to let the manager know that hey, maybe we should do what is due this week. Got told “This is MY plant and we will do it MY way”. We were late on all three. In the meeting for “Why can’t we ship anything on time?!?!?!” he blames the computer system.

So yeah I look like a fucki ng superstar since god forbid I ask accounting what our customer orders are looking like.
