Hahaha yeah an x1/9 was going to be my second vehicle... then “plans changed” I.e: we realized it would forever be needing fixing and sold it.

Hmmmmm. Worst?.... My friend raced one in the ‘80's and it did darn well. The engines are indestructible . They were vulnerable to rust but this one looks fine. I think this would be a perfect project car.

If maintained well it should be fine. Much better first car than some kind of oversized isolated from its surroundings auto-everythin g SUV

In the US, they give licenses to anyone with a pulse. Teenage drivers are bad drivers in general, and get in accidents.
The X 1/ 9 is a cool little car - but it’s tiny and has 1970s safety features. It would be obliterated if it was hit by an SUV .
My kid would need to get a few years of practice in something else before getting one.
SUVs are a really bad first car, too, for pretty much the opposite reasons - they teach bad habits .
There’s a middle ground where a first car can teach good habits without being a death trap. Any recent stick shift smaller car would be fine.
