I wanted one of these for the longest time. Kind of glad I didn’t land one . Rare (here) , relatively expensive, and finding one that wasn’t beat up was also a challenge, even though these are merely 10 years old. The 3-door XRs with the bells and whistles, not- rough, and manual... Good luck. And if you want a 5-door, so many of them were base XEs

I’m not saying they sold a lot, just answering the question. :)

They wanted to sell 30k-40k a year. I surprised they even tried the second MY but maybe those were all just leftovers.

I recall looking at the used market for these a couple of years back and thanks to Saturn being a dead brand they were a freaking steal, especially with a stick shift.

There were no 2009 models. Only 2008’s. I bought an ‘08 XE 5-door new in December 2008, the week Wagoner testified before Congress on GM needing a bailout.

GM prepped the car to be imported back when dollar-to-Euro exchange rates were much closer to parity. But the Euro strengthened very rapidly before the Astra was ready to ship, so it became a money-loser before the first unit hit the car lot.

So GM decided against advertising a car on which they were losing their shirts on every unit sold. Thus, it failed to gain any brand awareness and hardly any were sold. I got mine for $4500 off MSRP.

They did not import any for 2009 because lots were still full and because they were going bankrupt and because the credit crisis meant people couldn’t buy cars anyway.
