You could at least set the parking sensors up in a way that protects it. If an offroader can have sensors that detect approach obstacles, you can do the same.

That........makes great sense. Golf clap.

off-roaders have obstacle avoidance sensors?

My old 335d had parking sensors and they didn’t even account for the bottom of the stock bumper. If they did they’d go off for speed bumps.

lmao where are your protectors now!?

But it has the pre delivery lip guards on it. I don’t see a problem h ere . Isn’t that why they’re there?

yea, called skid plates
![]() 05/02/2019 at 12:46 |

I have to worry about the stupid bumper on my car all the time because it’s only a cm higher than the under body clearance and it isn’t even a splitter ... it doesn’t slope up as much as regular cars.

*Sees removable factory guards* TRIGGERED!!!!
Edit: When will Dodge start charging for this “feature”?

I hit those parking stops much more than I would like. And my car isn’t even that low.

The new Ram trucks do have a camera on the front for parking.
Id take that over parking sensors anyday.
![]() 05/02/2019 at 12:59 |

Eh, idk of any parking sensors that pick up objects that low. You should know if you have a splitter low enough and be careful when parking in spots with one of those things. My Z3 is too low and would scrape and my E34 isnt, I just park accordingly.
How would you park any supercar from before like 2010 if you need sensors to tell you that your bumper is low and may scrape on curbs
![]() 05/02/2019 at 12:59 |

They aren’t aimed downward because why would they be
![]() 05/02/2019 at 12:59 |

These concrete stops are the bane of anyone with a modern car anymore. Sometimes my front sensors see them, but sometimes not. And if my front bumper misses it, there is a lower piece behind it that I can still scrape.
Oh, how I hate that sound!

When they put development behind it. These fade and crack easily as they were only meant as guards and removed at dealers. This was just an added cost that FCA took to prevent a consumer complaint.
But if they start to put UV inhibitors to prevent fading/ cracking and then start color matching (doesnt have to be stock car colors, more so just making sure the color is consistent) they might start charging.

The front bumper on my 528i is split badly because it’s a 1/2cm lower than parking curbs. It catches w hen you back out and flexes and eventually a crack formed. I zip-tie stitched it and then those pulled out...

A) I’m never gonna park a supercar so get out of here with that irrelevant hypothetical used solely to put me down
2) this rental car is about 3 0 feet longer than the car I’ve been DDing fo r years so my frame of reference for where the front of the car should be is skewed.
![]() 05/02/2019 at 13:14 |

wow what a shortsighted affair on such an off road worthy vehicle
![]() 05/02/2019 at 13:15 |

It’s a rental, so....? :)
But seriously, I sometimes have wound up with my rear end too far out to steer clear of these. My current car has surround view, so I can select the front camera and park more accurately. Another feature that seems silly but is useful.

I feel like I saw a range rover or something demonstrating that. At the very least I've seen them with cameras that show the ground immediately in front of the car

If we can make a car that detects when it's being emissions tested, we can make one that can figure out if it's being parked and turn on an additional downward facing sensor. Or a camera.

Backing in to the parking space will fix this. I don’t pull into many spaces and when I do, I’m back a bit, but I try to back in when possible. Sadly the previous owner didn’t and beat the crap out of the front lower valance .
![]() 05/02/2019 at 13:35 |

Or just don’t pull so far in

Corvettes too, would hate to run one of those front splitters into something.

Doesn’t the Raptor have something like this. I know they have a camera in the front looking down, but thought I remembered seeing that they were using some kind of sensors as well.

I just knew not to pull into parking blocks.
I definitely wouldn’t want anything like that on an offroad vehicle.

Unfortunately not all lots are spacious enough to attempt that.
![]() 05/02/2019 at 14:37 |

Yeah, that’s a bummer for sure. A couple spots I have to park in are diagonal for pull in only, gotta be cautious. Nowadays the high end cars have the cameras. Makes it nicer. But it’ll take a while for that tech to trickle down to the domestics.

T
o be fair it does still have the scuff protectors on it. The drivers subconscious
is a genius
.

Sorry if it came off wrong, wasn’t meant to be a put down. And it doesn’t necessarily need to be a supercar, even a lot of regular cars like a Mini Cooper or CLA are low and will bash off those things
![]() 05/02/2019 at 15:17 |

Backing in requires less room than nosing in...
![]() 05/02/2019 at 16:12 |

Seems not making cars so god damn low these days would fix that...
![]() 05/02/2019 at 16:14 |

Wouldn’t NOT pulling over the block be a cheaper/easier fix?
![]() 05/02/2019 at 16:15 |

I guess with the CUV craze, statistically they aren’t. But the remaining cars that aren’t CUVs seem to get lower fronts.

Yet another reason I like older cars:
That is stock ride height! Saves for driveways, winter, etc.

A least with a pickup you can see the rear corners an d you wont ge t hung up on a curb. Not so with the Chally.

I just didn’t park on the cu rb, so I never had to worry about getting hung up ;)
Although driving over the curb may or may not have happened on numerous occasions
Mostly just giving you shit, parking a bigger vehicle takes adjusting, I’m sure once you get used to it it won’t be a problem.
