It’s...decent. I am also seeing them listed for sale now, after a year of delays

I sat in one at the NY Auto show. Good looking car for sure, with the right wheels and color. Materials are definitely squarely in between a GTI/Passat and an Audi A4. It has a lot of legroom and crossover-rivaling cargo space but the low roof makes getting in and out difficult and the high rocker panel hits your leg as you’re getting in and out.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Has a lot of features but the MSRP is the real killer her. No point even considering unless they take at least $5K off IMO. And looking at the competition- Stinger GT/ Regal GS/base Audi A5 Sportback/Acura TLX perhaps it might take $10K off MSRP to sway some in its favor.

Pricing screams, “We learned nothing from the failure that was the CC.”

Was it a failure, though? They seemed to keep selling it for a long time, plus I see them pretty frequently — probably more than the B6 Passat that they’re based on.

I’m sure it’s fine, it’s not like the CC was a bad car either. It’s just, who would want it compared to what else is out there?

A “decent” VW with a high price tag, exactly what US buyers are looking for in a vehicle.  When will they learn?

From the wiki  “With only 3,900 units sold in 2015, the CC was one of the lowest selling models in the Volkswagen range,” The Passat sold over 20,000 that year, apparently.

So there was worse but it’s not exactly great either.

I would say they did learn and came thru with the Jetta GLI. Even with some obvious cost cutting you get a lot of performance and features (tech/safety) for the money, even comparing vs the GTI. T he reviews have been very positive as well.

Interesting...but I’m not sure I’d compare VW’s “4-seat faux sedan styling exercise” with any real sedans here, especially when VW was selling Jettas and Passats alongside the CC. It always seemed like a stupid money-grubbing effort to leverage the old Passat platform to gain image-conscious buyers.

Thanks, I just saw KingTChalla’s reply with some comparison, too. With the age of the underlying CC platform, I suspect any remaining sales they made had huge margins on them. Definitely time for a reboot, but the whole 4 door coupe segment is a little silly. They should have just built a better Passat to cover all that ground.

This looks like it competes squarely with the Regal. Regal MSRP  trends to a lower price than this but even top end Regals like the GS are going for 5-10k off depending on your ability to search. I don’t see this leaving shelves without discounts similar to the Regal maybe even greater, I’m not sure what you get for the money but fully loaded regals are hard to pass at 10k off.

I think the Arteon looks fantastic and can only hope that it’ll follow the CC’s rampant depreciation. I’ll take a two-year-old Arteon with 24k miles for $18 k, Alex.

I came really close to getting an Arteon to replace Piglet, but decided on an estate car and bought Sandy instead.

The Arteon and the Superb share a wealth of components, simply th e architecture  is different.

I really like the Arteon and think it looks great, especially the modified ones I’ve seen. H owever, it’s coming out at the worst possible time. We all know sedan sales are declining and those crack prices won’t help the Arteons case.

It would have been smarter for VW to bring over the smaller T-Roc crossover than this..

I want to like how the Arteon looks, but the headlight/grille format grates on me. So close yet so far.

Seriously. VW’s SUV strategy is soooo far behind everyone else. Jetta and especially Passat sales have plummeted over the past 5 years, what do they think this will accomplish, besides some intern al cannibalization

That’s been VW’s problem for a long time. Stop just making decent cars and start making cars people want.

Instead of this VW could bring over the swb Tiguan and T-Roc. Those come with a rather steep price tag but are not watered down.

Right! You look at Hyundai/Kia which seems to be debuting new (and cheaper) crossovers every minute and it’s probably not a bad idea given the current market.

I’m glad the Arteon exists, but don’t fore see it having any sales success

I saw some reviews for the T-Roc and the T-Roc R. it would do well in the US. The T-ROC R especially looks good and might help sell to Golf-R buyers to want to convince their S/O of an even more practical family-friendly Golf R

Regarding pricing, it’s not even slightly cheaper in Canada vs. the U.S., when using exchange rates.

The U.S. base MSRP is $35,845, while the Canadian base MSRP is $47,995, which is pretty much exactly the same price.
