Because I’ve been looking at C300s recently. Specifically 2013 to 2014 white C300s with tan interiors, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
To make matters worse, not only is it a Mercedes, obviously, not a BMW, it also has this in it:
That’s right, it’s got an automatic transmission. So yes, the person who owns two manual BMWs is looking at an automatic Mercedes. Why? Well, up until a few hours ago, a CEL had been glaring at me every time I drove my 328i. This was right after spending a bunch of money to rectify oil leaks and bad coils, so I was about done with it.
While it might not be as trilling and engaging as my 328i is to drive, it might actually make a better commuter. I wouldn’t dread sitting in traffic riding the clutch, not that there is much traffic on my commute now. It would also be interesting to experience something different for a little. I’ve bought three cars in my life, all of them BMWs. The only time I owned a non-BMW was when I had my Explorer, because that was bequeathed to me. The Mercedes would also probably connect to my phone and play music. While my 328i does have both a USB and an AUX port, they’re broken. It also has bluetooth, but bluetooth for music was not a thing in 2009 BMW world.
Additionally, while the sport trim didn’t come with a hood ornament, apparently the grills are interchangeable so I could have a hood ornament. While that may seem like a n immaterial reason to have one, I would enjoy it every time I drove the car.
So yeah, I want a C300; !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . That will probably quell my desire to get a Mercedes for a little.

Hood ornament is great! You cant act like you have a machine gun and aim at targets. Best reason to own any car

Where is BM2 to send you to gulag??

Was thinking either or .
I like the pre-face lift, but then I don’t want my interior to fall apart so post face lift it would be. It just seems like it would be a decent car to be my commuter appliance . I know I might be slightly misconstruing the word appliance, but my current DD isn’t exactly an appliance .

No buy a C63 AMG and straight pipe that.
Seriously it would sound amazing

I think this would be a good decision.

That it would, they’re starting to get into the very tempting range. In looking at C300s, I’ve noticed that decent milage 2014s are under 30k now. I also don’t drive that much where fuel economy is a major issue. We’re supposed to get a “market adjustment” to our salaries this year, so if I get an unexpected massive pay bump, I might go out and get one.

Since I already spent two months in Siberia, not sure.
That’s an actual true statement .

I’ve been trying to make those recently. Although, my 328i decided it wanted to start running perfectly again today. We’ll see, one of these might be in the cards.

A friend of mine has a C300, around 2011 maybe? Well over 100k now, and he bought it used. He’s been happy with it. It may be a little more reliable than a 328, but probably not a huge difference, I think.
![]() 03/31/2019 at 20:19 |

How much has it cost you to keep the 328i on the road, excluding fuel/registration/insurance?

While I like your thinking, I’m unsure about Benz maintenance and reliability being better than a BMW. I have a gut feeling it’s better-built and shouldn’t have issues as often but those issues might cost more. Out of curiosity, does Lexus offer a legitimate competitor that could offer the same level of comfort as that C300?

I’ve got 77.6k on my 328i, been pretty reliable and it would be almost asinine to sell it after the amount of money I’ve sunk into it.

$5361.01 in maintenance and repairs.

My 3 has been pretty decent and I’ve heard that the engine in the C300 is pretty reliable. The interior on my 3 is still in good condition after 10 years.
I fucking hate Lexus’s infotainment, because of this I am not interested in any Lexus of the period. That might seem insignificant , but if I have to use the car everyday, I want to enjoy driving it in not pretend it 2008.

I’ve also put almost 40k on the car, so the bills were expected. I think I’m going to change the water pump myself soon and then other than a leaking oil pan gasket, it should be well and sorted.

Yeah, unless you’re desperate to get a slushbox because traffic, I’d keep it, personally.
![]() 03/31/2019 at 20:32 |

There really isn’t any traffic on my commute, so it’s really a non-issue. More than likely keeping it.

I’ve never researched Lexus of that time frame but wow I didn’t know that part was so bad!

How do you listen to music without any of those?!
![]() 03/31/2019 at 21:05 |

It’s got an internal hard drive I’ve put music on. Not ideal, but it works.
![]() 03/31/2019 at 21:09 |

Huh, I forgot cars had those. But how does an aux and bluetooth break? Thats crazy
![]() 03/31/2019 at 21:21 |

I think something with the AUX connection broke, these never had Bluetooth audio. I think it was a 2010+ thing for the Bluetooth audio.

Probably wise. But unnecessary car shopping is necessary .

That C300 should be rock solid.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 01:32 |
|
Holy hell. That C300 would have none of those issues. Air filter every 40k, trans service every 70k, plugs every 60k. It might need the other stuff at like 150k (other than tires and normal maintenance of course).

They do, but painfully loud to be honest!
![]() 04/01/2019 at 17:39 |

It may be an option but my 2011 with base stereo but I drive and hd radio doesn’t do bt audio only bt calling
![]() 04/01/2019 at 20:39 |
|
I’ll be honest, I’m not sure of which cars came with it and didn’t come with it. From my research all 2010+ cars with iDrive had bluetooth audio. I’m not 100% sure on how they choose to offer it. I know my 2011 M3 has idrive and bluetooth audio but my friends base 2011 328i doesn’t even have a bluetooth phone connection. Yet, my 128i did have at least bluetooth calling; BMW option land is a strange place.

It’s better than a Versa...
Plus, final year of that model should be more reliable than the early ones at the very least. And I think it’s as fast as a 328i also, but should ride softer and quiter I guess.
![]() 04/02/2019 at 15:09 |
|
Way better than a Versa.
I’ve heard that the drive trains are pretty reliable in these. I don’t find the ride in my 3 too harsh, and have a driven a luxury C300 and I found the ride to be too floaty; this is why I want to try a sport.

If you get the AM G package it looks good, and I think lower ride hieght +Sport suspension.
