Put together a new capacitor for my bike today. I tried a “charging mod” on the old ones which caused the voltage to spike and wreck the old ones. I picked these guys up off Amazon for $2 a piece, so we’ll see how they hold up. Six 10k uF caps wired in parallel. I’m running LED bulbs in the front and back, so my load is pretty light. While trying to diagnose the charging issue with the old caps, I discovered my bike will start and idle off the generator alone. Pretty neat.

When you said it would start without the battery, for some reason I was thinking that you meant it would start off the caps. Me: d umbass. When you flipped down the kickstarter I just about smacked myself in the forehead. Kickstarter. Just like all the dirt bikes I rode as a kid. No batteries required. Duh!

Yeah, I run it off a capacitor , like a dirtbike. What I discovered is that it’ll idle even without the cap, which I thought was cool for a 48 yo charging system.
