And the prompt is, “Write about a time your parents embarrassed you.” He says he can’t think of anything. Have we failed as parents?

Better get to embarrassing that kid. His grades depend on it!

He probably just was so embarrassed that he blocked it out of his memory entirely.

What a dumb topic. Typical teacher.

Is it possible he’s just lying? Oh no I can’t write it..

Yes. I can remember my mother embarrassing me on many occasions throughout my life.

Good job for giving your kid an F. Guess he’ll have to make something up. Or alternatively, he’s lazy.

I don’t like embarrassing myself and usually that is required if I embarrass my kids. So it doesn’t happen.

Come in to class, give him a wedgie, maybey he’ll get extra credit?

Or, maybe go existential with it. “My parents were dumb enough to have a kid, they are responsible for a lifetime of embarrassment”

What a dumb prompt

have him write the word “this” with an arrow on a single sheet of paper. when it comes time to present it to the teacher you will appear in the classroom completely naked

I don’t believe that embarrassment is a character builder.

I imagine reviewing some photo albums from his time as a toddler ought to give him something to write about. It could also net you some cash, since I would imagine there are some pictures he might be willing to buy back.

We haven’t done any of the horrible naked pictures or dressed ours in anything ghastly... Is this something most parents do? I think the worst was some onesie thing with some text on it about grandma.

But this is a high schooler. How do they make it that long without something ? Teenagers usually find something that they’re horrified their parents did/do to them.

Well, it wasn’t meant as one. But I will say that I don’t find embarrassment to be a good character builder.

I don’t know, teenagers take  a lot of interest in not being embarrassed.

I was dropping my son off for track practice last night at his school. He’s got his learner’s permit so he drives. We park right in front of the entrance, in the circular driveway. I get out to switch to the driver seat, and as he walks by, I embrace him fully, an d loudly tell him to have fun, his mother and I love him very much, and know that he’s going to be great throwing things. Then I say and if your rash down there causes grief, he can call his mommy and she can come with the powder to make it better. I then kissed him on the forehead, told him again that I love him, and let go.

He rolled his eyes and walked away. I'm great at this parenting stuff!

Hell, I’m 41 and my old man still actively works to embarrass me.

Signing rental car contract at BWI to visit extended family. My father, to the clerk helping us: “You’re such a kind young woman. My son here is single. Are you single?”

Imagine this exchange...oh...everywhere. I’d rather have a hundred awkward moments of my mother showing people my baby pictures (bathtub and all) than having them play stranger matchmaker as a joke.
