I was out to dinner the other night and there was a 997 GT2 RS parked in front of the restaurant . It was really hard for me to keep my cool. I think that might have been the first or second time I’ve ever seen one in person.
A 911 of any type is definitely my “attainable” dream car, but I’ve also made peace with the fact it’ll probably never happen.

I got stuck in this quandary the other day of cars I could afford in a few years. Suddenly I’m throwing the 997.2/991, LC500 and E vora 400 against each other and it still baffles me which one I would get today if I was buying today.

I have a deep love for the LC 500. I saw one yesterday and it’s so exceptionally good looking. It looks like a concept car that’s actually out on the road. It is definitely in a different category from everything else on your list, though.

Oye that Targa

You’re right on them being different classes. Rear, mid, and front engine but I’d be equally happy in any of them. It’s a problem when I can go Evora 400... but LC500.... but 911... but Evora 400... but 911... but LC500 but...

Check out the Oslo Blue Metallic Targa on Porsche Nashvilles Instagram . I love it.

Counterpoint: Cayman S.
Realistically if I was in a position to buy an luxury weekend car (meaning if I reach the point where I have already spent my money in as many sensible ways as possible, and I had some left over to “throw away” ) the Cayman S would probably be where I’d look first. I had a former coworker who pretty much only owned P orsches and he said his Cayman S was the car he missed the most because of how well balanced it was.

The Cayman has just n ever interested me. I’d probably get a Targa 911. Not a convertible but top down for sure

Of those, I’d go 997.2 easily. In about five years, as long as we don’t have more than one additional kiddo, I should be able to get one as a weekend car, or a 981. Will be hoping for a GTS, but since those are harder to find, I’d be plenty happy with a S model.

Non-speci alty 911s typically depreciate to nothing in the long term...never say never!

Former Cayman owner here, that opinion is seconded. Fantastically balanced car.

True, its not technically impossible, but like I said to ORLG, there are a lot of very adult places I need to put my money before I can even THINK about purchasing and maintaining a luxury sports car.
I’d really like to at least drive a C ayman/911 just to experience it , and then maybe I’d settle for an NB or ND Miata when the time comes .

No doubt all their PTS cars have huge markup.
It’s kinda crappy, PTS allocations are intended to be for customer orders.

Current 981 Cayman S owner. Gonna be on the track at Thompson Memorial Day weekend (I hope) so I can’t wait to feel the difference between autox and track driving, but man this car is incredible.
To compare the 911 though, I haven’t been in one yet (WHY?) but I want to go to the Porsche Experience Center in ATL and do the rear vs mid course they have. I really want a back-to-back comparison. However, I didn’t want extra seats, a MUCH older car for the same price, and other things. I wanted the Cayman. Might get a 911 in the far far future though.
