me daughter had a tag along day in the college she’s hoping to join next year its in the next city over from us

anyhoo missus dropped her off to do some shopping whilst she was in school and given her the busfare to get back to central station where they’d agreed to meet up after school around 1pm

about 1:30... missus calls me... no sign of daughter

2:30 still no sign.. called school.. they say she got on a bus just before 1....

Kinja'd!!!

3 o clock comes and goes... still no sign... the missus has aged about 20 years by now... and im not doing much better

just before 4 the neighbourlady calls me missus

police just dropped off our daughter... shes at hers now bawling her eyes out...

sooo.. i had to go find me bossman and asplain i need to get home to go deal with drama and cant work overtime today as the missus is still one town over and someone needs to calm down my daughter...

anyhoo.... turns out my daughter took the bus to central where she spotted someone in a similar coat to her mum board the train didnt stop to think her mum wouldnt board a train without her and boarded too... figured out on the train it wasnt mum.. got off at the next stop and proceeded to panic so much the station staff called the cops on/for her and they eventually brought her home....

she on the scale somewhat... so every now and then her thinking skills are... interdasting.....

if she does get into this college i really hope she doesnt plan to pull shit like this regularly next year..... i wont get very old if she does

Oh man, I’d have been a shaking wreck before 3 myself.

My heart started racing just reading this.

Thank God everything’s okay.

If it makes you feel any  better... My kids got a cold, m y cat puked on one of my heirloom hand woven oriental rugs, and I smashed the Note 5 my late mother had given to me as a gift a few years before she died.

I has not been a good morning for me.

Ah yes, children and relationships. Two things I’m glad I don’t have to go through.

Good luck with the evening ahead.

I get upset when my cat doesn’t immediately appear when I get home...so yeah, no to kids.

She old...is she dead? Is she hurt? Did she break something again and hiding? Is she stuck? Did she break and window and get out!? CAT!!!

Welp, good news is she’s ok, I guess?  And hopefully she gets the hang of finding her way around on her own before college starts!

Thanks. I’ll survive, presumably, but yeah... I know how it feels to have one of those days.

Glad to know your little one made it back home safe and sound. That’s the most important thing. Hopefully lessons learned about the joys of taking transit. I’ve hopped on the wrong bus before and ended up in unfamiliar territory, before the days of data plans, and know how stressful it can be. Hard to get to where you need to be  when you have little of idea of where you are... especially if pocket money is limited. 3,2,1, panic.

oh well... alls well that ends well

Wait so she’s a high school senior, though? No offense, but this reads like a story with a much younger child. Here’s hoping she becomes way more comfortable with being out in the world really soon. And if I am misunderstanding and she actually is way younger than this does suck and I hope it doesn’t cause any lasting trauma!

I have a pet camera because I’m gone a lot for work. I don’t really pay too much attention to it, but sometimes I get the same feeling. NO MOTION DETECTED IN HALF AN HOUR? WHERE ARE THEY?!? Then I make it shoot out treats so they come running,  just to reassure myself they’re still alive. No wonder they’re getting fat.

shes 16 but emotionally in many ways closer to 10 as shes somewhere on the autism scale (we’re having counseling and whatnot to get her up to her age but still a ways to go)

but mostly she does before she thinks and then panics when it all goes tits up

its exhausting

Maybe this will teach her that an uncool phone is better than being stuck? Poor girl though. (And poor you guys). Glad that all ended well.

You and I are nearly in the same boat. Smart as my daughter is, she still has the occasional freak-out when things get a little out of sorts. On their first day in NYC , I started receiving texts about how lost they were and how they were going to be lost forever because “mom doesn’t know what she is doing.”

I reminded her that it’s all about procedures. If you get on the wrong train, treat it just like a wrong turn in a car. Go to the next exit (train stop) and turn around (get on the right train). Pay attention to the signs and don’t do anything stupid like backing up on the shoulder or crossing five lanes of traffic to get to the exit you’re about to miss.

Once she was reminded about the procedural approach to problem solving and she realized the world wasn’t going to end if they hopped the wrong train , she calmed down. Transportation on t he rest of the trip went smoothly as far as I know.

yeah... looks like we still have some work to do on getting the procedures sitting right in her head... or at least taking her phone...

we’ll get there

She’s not stupid - obviously for safety, you have to buy her a new phone!

yeah im not playing that game... she can prove to me she can take that phone everywhere without losing or breaking it first

(she loses or breaks rather a lot of stuff she doesnt pay for)

As your kiddo is on the spectrum, you know that they do much better in routine, and this was definitely a change in that regard. My sister-in-law is on the spectrum and nearly nonverbal and gets super upset when things change. She came with my in-laws down to visit a few months back and just couldn’t handle the change, so much so that flights had to be changed for her to go home early.

I bet that once your daughter picks out a school and gets settled in a routine that things will go swimmingly.

My 14 year old blind cat just walks in and out of the kitchen 24/7. There are days where I have the same 10 second video clips every two minutes for hours. I’d screenshot it but the kitchen is a total mess right now :)

Yeah, this is from Whistle . Specifically, this is the Whistle 3 , which I got her after she escaped their yard and got lost (she’s mostly blind). It has GPS for tracking. The monthly cell fee is excessive, but freaking out at not being able to find her was no fun either. My parents’ other dog has a different model that doesn’t do location tracking, so doesn’t have the stupid monthly fee.

I had a husky/lab that walked the yard all day when she got old. I assumed maybe something like it was too painful to lie down and get up? That it was easier to stay standing and walk? Made me anxious and worried for her. Maybe it was something similar for your cat?

I think that’s both close and totally opposite. She’s nosy and thinks she runs the place, but since she can’t see she can’t just sit on the couch and watch everything. I think she’s patrolling to investigate the noises my other pe ts make. I’m also pretty sure she thinks she’s invisible (using “if I can’t see you, you can’t see me” logic) because she gets REALLY offended when she’s ‘ sneaking’ around and you call her name.

oh yeah... forgot that anything to do with a cat would be the opposite of a dog.
