Tomorrow my family and I will be spending 15.5 hours on a 777-200LR. ATL-JNB. It’s our longest run at something over 8000 miles. Fingers  crossed for an upgrade, but failing that we have a full assortment of entertainment options, snacks and sleep aids. After a night in JNB we fly up to Durban on one of these.

If I ever have stupid money I will own a 777-200LR. Why? That range.

How old are the kiddos? That’s a long time in the air. Business/pleasure trip?

One of these can get you even further for a lot less money and would be easier to find a parking space.

I grew up in Pretoria and we’d spend at least a week every year at a property on the beach near Umhlanga in summer . Lots of happy memories. Enjoy yourself :)

Exactly. I see Trump’s 757 occasionally (couple weeks go in a hangar in Tampa was the last time), and it always pisses me off. How could someone fuck up their transportation so badly? Any number of business jets are faster with longer legs and can land more places without supporting equipment. It’s just a stupid plane if not being used for cargo or transporting large numbers of people. Aside from the “I’ve got big plane” ego bullshit, that is.

I just got back from Vietnam. Took the whole family. About 20 hours total flight tim e each way! We can't even upgrade to premium select because the kids are too young. Coach all the way. We did get lucky and at least get seated together. Good luck and I hope you get upgraded.

I want to hear about that! Vietnam is in the top 5 list of next spots. My son wants to go to Greenland, we talked about Galapagos and Easter Island.

I’m lucky that we have a chance of upgrading to Delta One, our first class, but I’d that doesn’t happen we have seats all together.

If I can get myself motivated I’m going to write a post about their unique driving rules that favor scooters. Otherwise it was super hot (the night time low was mid to high 80s) so we tried to stay indoors or go to water parks. Everything is about a third the price of the US.

We work for the same company so I’m curious if you buy tickets for  other airlines or zed fare? We used Korean Air and they are great. As long as they have seats they will clear you right away.

I’ve only used Zed once International and a couple of times domestically. I didn’t realize that we had the same paint on the tail.

My brother works for UAL and I’ve flown on his buddy passes a few times and upgrades seem like a distant dream.
