I was talking to my wife and we talking about some friends of mine and I said I finally figured out what a new friend of mine drives. It’s how I identify people. I have a real hard time remembering names but if I see or know what you drive I will remember a lot better.
For reference this is me,
2012 Subaru Outback 2.5 Limited
1980 Pontiac Firebird
1997 Chevrolet K1500

Always fun to make a new acquaintance, get to know them a bit, and have a thought in your mind about what they drive, and then find out what they actually drive and be shocked/impressed/disappointed.

I identify our neighbours by the cars to my wife because I can’t remember their house # or name.
“You know, the guy with the older black accord”

I will be very surprised to learn that any Oppo does not do this.

Ma ma always says there’s an awful lot you could tell about a person by their car...

I further categorize my friends and acquaintances by characteristics of their cars. For example, when I first move to Las Cruces 10 (that long? How has it been that long? ) years ago, I worked a number of friends cars on the side. I have a category of folks who’s cars I’ve pulled the dipstick out on and found it dry. I was always doing something other than an oil change on their cars (somehow, it was usually electrical troubleshooting or A/C repair ) , but always gave them a quick mechanical once over before calling it done. The phone call was always along the lines “your car is done, but you owe me a little extra for a couple of quarts of oil because your oil level was low enough to not even be on the dipstick. You should really check/change that more often... ”
It turns that a few folks in my circle aren’t really car people beyond that they own one because you can’t really be an adult and do the things around here without a car.

I suspect most here do this.
I also know many of the cars in my building’s garage, but very few of the drivers.

Many of my friends don’t even have cars. This method would not be effective. Even for the ones that do, I’d be associating them with their past cars rather than their current ones.

Absolutely, I am terrible with names, but I’ll always rememb
er the car they drive. When I had a room mate, I always knew what guy she had over by the car out front. I never knew a single one of their names, but I knew the cars they drove.

I referenced someone once as the guy who drives the silver Tacoma and the “normals” thought it was weird and didnt know who I was talking about.

I always ask what people drive if I’m at a loss for conversation at a party or something. I’m always amazed that some people own cars and cannot tell me what make and model they are. I get owning a bland car and not caring about cars, but owning it and just not devoting a little space in your brain to remember what it says on the back? I had a guy tell me he drives a Nissan Elantra and he was amendment that’ s what it was.

I am far better with cars than I am with names/faces. Sadly most of the people that work in my office drive company trucks (new RAMs) that are identical (small variations in color)... makes it hard to keep track.

Most of my office lot is ( white silver or black) E/S class Mercedes , A or S 4/A 6 Audis, 3series /5series BMWs. Then there are a bunch of new Wranglers. There are a couple of car guys however : Toyota 86, 991 911, 60's Fiat 124, and myself

I’ve talked with most of the people with interesting cars that live in my apartment complex. Everyone has been fun!

Unfortunately, little in my building is fun. Most interesting might be a woman who has a mid 00s Range Rover she keeps and maintains cost no object as a sentimental item , and another who has a relatively base CLA and loves it. Lots of Civrollas and invisible CUV/SUV s in the garage. There’s also some kind of old sportbike lurking in the basement, I need to see what that’s about.
In the past, a guy in the building had an early 50s Buick of all things, that was interesting. There have been a few Porsches, too. Right now, my Bluetec might be the oddest thing, aside from when the fintail visits.

I know the year and specific model of their cars, “
oh yeah the Garcia’s
have a 2005 Subaru forester 2.5i, 5 speed, gold/tan and the ‘
98 green land cruiser.” And our neighbors have a 2013 hemi ram tradsman and a 2015 Crosstrek manual.

Hah, I’m the same, can’t remember names for the life of me, but can remember what car they drive, even if they mention it off hand in conversation years down the road.

Lol , here’s my office lot...
The two cars at the top are my old Juke (white) which has been replaced by a Jetta, and my coworkers 6mt Maxima.
