I finally got some new rubber on the Miata and will be driving it to work as much as I can on dry days. Unfortunately it's still too cold in PA to put the top down. I can handle it, but the 25 year old top gets pretty brittle below 50F and can tear.

Step 1: blast heater to warm top.
Step 2: open top
Alternatively: take chances, replace top

I'm trying to make it last a little longer. Not really in a position to replace it right now so I can wait another week or two.

This should be a gif with sleepy eyed headlights slowly opening up.

I took the plunge and replaced mine a couple months ago in a freak warm spell. It’s a pain, but not impossible. I got a Sierra auto tops, with vinyl window, so it was about $ 200. Better than a Robin's installed professionally, for a grand

I’ve replaced 3 miata soft tops, it is such a pain. I opted to just re-bond a new back window into the top on the 91 I have sitting in my driveway when I got it.

Did you take the frame off the car, or leave the frame on? It sucks, but I felt that after the first time it would be much easier. I did it with the frame off the car.

Frame off all three times. We had to do rain rails too. The first one was a new rubberized rain rail. The third one was on a budget so we used Flex Tape to reconstruct the plastic rail. It worked really really well, but man that stuff is tacky!

I paid a little extra for preinstalled rain rail. Worth the extra.
