Pricing for the new Jeep Gladiator is coming midnight the 30th of the month...so question: W hat’ s the price range for you personally that you would pay and what price would send you into a rage fit? In other words, what do you think is reasonable for, lets say, a Rubicon 3.6 auto without any of the fancy bits and what price would you consider outrageous ?

Kinja'd!!!

I would say that a base rubi 3.6 auto should cost no more than 40k.  If it breaks 45k for a base rubi I think I would consider that crazy town.

I’d be tempted at $3000, so clearly I am not the target market. In general, it seems like it should be priced similarly to the 4-door Wrangler, probably with a small price bump (<$3000) for novelty.

I’d willingly pay $35K CDN for the basest base model

so what’s your second number. the price at which you’d think to yourself “seriously?!” you don't have to be a potential buyer

Probably much higher, more like $25 ,000. At that point I think there would definitely be other new cars sufficiently good that I’d never even consider the Jeep  (I’m assuming I can’t just turn around and sell it, since that would be an indication of how other people value it rather than me).

So, you’re train of thought I’d the pickup should run less than the SUV version?

I don’t think it would be out of line if the Rubicon came in around the same price as the TRD Pro. I’d say $42k for an automatic, which would undercut the SUV version by $2k would suffice. Is you basest of base soft top only? Add some “Freedom Top” style option, and now you’re probably pushing $44k.

Me personally, $41k with a hard top and the tech package, because that’s the price I had on a 4 door  Rubicon. It’ll be funny when all of the pickups have a matching Mopar bed cap that never gets removed.

I would pay 35k for for a two door.

i think 40k is plenty for the bas e rubi truck, i mean they didn’t even spent the money on new rear door stampings so they ought be passing those savings on.

trd pro is also vastly better equipped than a base rubi

I don’t understand your reasoning at all.

Obviously it’s going to cost more than a JLUR, so $41.5 is your floor.

You say the TRD Pro is better equipped, but it doesn’t come with a removal roof. Removable doors. Removable windshield!

And the other off-road feature I’d find important (lockers ) the Rubicon beats the 4Runner as well, which only offers rear lockers.

So, I’m not buying one, but $45k sounds fine for the market, and is less than the 4Runner.

FCA’s pricing goal is to do a pickup with Wrangler pricing, not pickup pricing. Basically this means selling with zero rebates needed like the Wrangler, and not $5k - $10k in rebates like the pickups .

The actual goal is to make as much $$$ as possible. They know demand will be high, especially at launch.

Therefore, my estimate is $3k to $5k more for Gladiator than a comparably equipped 4dr Wrangler.

From a value perspective, it will be rubbish. A heavily discounted Power Wagon that’s been sitting on the lot for a while (along with a new chainsaw and shovel) will be be a better buy than any Gladiator. Leftover 2018's are being advertised for $45k.

Jeep Oz have already indicated that a sub AU $60k Gladiator is unlikely...

Hahahaha....fuckno.

In that case I would spend the extra 15k for a 75 Series dual cab....I'd save that in the depreciation costs alone on the Jeepny.

In 2016, I paid about 36k on a loaded JK rubi with a soft top and manual. It was a relatively good deal against the sticker price, which was several thousand higher. Most folks in FL don’t want a highly optioned 4x4 vehicle with a standard transmission, so I was a niche buyer.

I will be in the market for one of these in 2021 when my daughter gets her license. She will get a well used wrangler, with 120k miles. I will price shop the Gladiator against a similar JL. I’m guessing the all equal premium will be about 5k. Is it worth it? I will have to see if it’s radically more useful than a wrangler. I kind of doubt it, but we’ll see. Also will need a soft top to even be considered.

The only real utility problem with the wrangler, for me, is the funk. I surf and coach. I always have wetsuits, soccer gear, and cross country stuff in the back and it stinks like a locker room. If I could mount bed rails on the Gladiator, I could haul my surfboard and sport stuff and keep the junk confined to the bed.

I tow our  boat fine with the wrangler, although I bump against the rated capacity, but I realize that’s a differentiator.  It pushes some folks into the Grand Cherokee, for the towing capacity, so the Gladiator may be a lower priced option

If the New Bronco truly has a removable top and doors, maybe that will be a contender as well.

Huh? The base Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon starts at $42 ,500 with destination. Even with America’s love of pickups, I’d suspect the SUV to outsell the pickup, so I can’t imagine the Gladiator Rubicon would start at any less than  $45K.

I remember hearing talk that it would be about 3k more than the equivalent JLU. And I think that would make sense.

If it’s more than 4K more than an Unlimited I’d be shocked

Too bad they won’t give us a 2 door 6.5’ bed  option.

I’d say Rubicon/Taco TRD Pro are quit similar actually. What would you consider “vastly” better equipped? I’d say the main thing missing on a base Rubicon would be the hard top. Leather seats?

Anyway, for me, I’ll stick by my hard top/tech package Ruby at $41k (meaning a base Rubicon with an auto would be actually a little below your $40k threshold).  Above $44k for one equipped as such is too much for me.

According to a Motor Trend article, it looks as thought the base Rubicon will come in around $44k. Too rich for my blood.
