Th ere is no such thing as a good boat deal.

A boat is a hole in water you try to fill with money.

It’s all relative. Some are bigger holes in the water than others.

Who knew holes in the water could be so much fun though

Needs an interior, that vinyl is trashed. It might only show ‘some cracks’ but it’s also discolored, and it looks like they replaced the rear sundeck already, probably because it was tearing - but they used a dark color, so, be prepared to get 1st degree burns when you touch it.

You also would rather have a 4.3 V6 - better power/weight ratio than the 5.slow in a 19' boat. That engine is good, though, generally.

For $10k you could do better but you could do a lot worse.

A Monterey is just a Bayliner with all the bolts tightened up.

That was kinda my thought. Needs interior work and a starter but a re built motor with receipts in 15 for 10K isn’t bad. 10K is tricky. You don’t get anything really new, big, or fast. Especially considering that is it spring, there are definitely worse options.

I like that it has a 305 in that size boat, but otherwise that is a crackpipe price. There are way better boats for 10k out there. That boat has been used hard and that it appears to have been stored wet without bottom painting and barrier coating sets off all kinds of alarm bells. It looks like it has been kept wet and then had the hull hit with a good pressure washer.   Boats from that time period are especially prone to blistering anyway, and I’d expect this thing to be some combination of a rotted transom and blistered hull with some rotten stringers thrown in just for fun if it has spent significant time wet.  The trashed interior is a nice touch.

For $10k I’d go for old and well maintained when it comes to boats. That’s a pretty good boat, a decent brand (Monterey), and seems to check the well-maintained box. It looks like it’s been used hard, but that’s not necessarily bad. I used my old boat HARD, but it was mechanically and cosmetically very good.

I’d give the brand a little more credit than that, but it’s no Cobalt.

A Bayliner with more bolts?
