Rolling coal
I have a job interview tomorrow. I currently work a regular 9-5, but the shift for this job would be 3 12 hr shifts fri-sun. At this point in my life it sounds like a fantastic deal. Get all my hours in, in the space of 3 days, then 4 days off where I can actually get shit done when everyone else is open and no craziness of weekend shopping crowds. Not to mention very little overlap with my wife’s job but still having a decent amount of time with the family.

Sounds solid. I recommend abnormal shifts because it's so much easier to get things done on your off days. The long days will be tough, but I think they'll be worth it.

I’ve done 50-60 hour weeks in ten hour shifts, so I figure it won’t be too bad to get used too.

This sounds awesome. One of the best perks of working for the university is that I have a 4-10 hour day schedule. Three day weekends are damned awesome. I do Monday as my extra day off, as Monday mornings are a fantastic time to run errands and the golf course is far less crowded on Monday afternoons.

I used to work 10-11 hour days, 5 days a week, and it made me realize something: there is nothing you can get done in 50 hours that you can’t get done in 3, so do that and spend everything above that fucking off.

Sounds like a good move - and kid, I’m staring down the barrel of 60 ... go get me a glass of water (George Burns joke, credit where credit is due ...).

There’s another big machining company nearby that does 4 10s and that also sounds appealing. It may well be something I shoot for once my son is old enough to be home alone most of the day during the summer.

That’s sort of how my current schedule is working out. I don’t have set hours, but I’m getting a couple of projects a week that mean 2-3 intense days of work and travel, then I veg and catch up on the world for a day, then 3-4 days off. I like it so far. Going to the grocery store - or COSTCO!! - at 10 am on a Tuesday is life-changing.

I am doing it since always (working in pubs and restaurants through schools), now in factory I am only have 4 day 10 hrs fri-monday . Best way to work (for somebody) is to have as little days you can there.

I wish we could knock it off with the 9-5 shit, especially for people who have no need to work certain hours. As long as my work is done each week it really doesn’t matter when I do it, yet I MUST work 8 hours a day 5 days a week

I’ve been on a 12 hour Sun-Tue for the last few months. I’m close to 40 yrs old. The long days were a little hard at first but now it’s a breeze.
I've never been happier with my work schedule.

Personally, I would love a schedule like that. I work a normal 9 to 5, but every once in a while I take a personal day to get stuff done as most other businesses are, you know, open from 9 to 5 as well.
