The old brute is back on daily duty until further notice.

What’s wrong with the CX5? Genuinely curious, I have a highish miles one.

i suggest a new job closer to home then.
something within walking/cycling distance

Sounds like the stress is in protecting the CX-5 from that mess.

This is my nightmare. Come to Dayton.
Also, your back door is open, and your check engine light is on. Additionally, your overdrive has been shut off, and you are not moving.

The CEL is just a perma CEL, relating to the O/D off light, which is on.
I’ll suffer through the 10mpg.

It’s a current gen, but everything about it is borderline almost okay. The seat ALMOST scoots far enough back for my “super long” 30" inseam legs. The engine is almost competent, but it’s either full throttle or no acceleration. The noise it emits is horrible, every time I have to get on the highway the engine screams for dear life. I hear all of this, because of Mazdas torture fetish of not installing sound deadening. Due to that, the road noise makes this 4Runner on mud terrains as quiet as a Rolls Royce. The infotainment is garbage, and the center USB and 12V work intermittently.
But worst of all, is their dad, pathetic attempts at making it sporty. It’s an understeering, uncomfortable mess. It has less grip than anything I’ve ever driven, barring a 2wd Tacoma.

The traffic isn’t that bad, I'm just at a light.

I won’t fall for your trickery....

...and the Slowrunner will still be running long after the CX5 is in a salvage yard.

I would have to say you’re the odd man out when it comes to the CX-5. You’re the first I’ve heard say it’s not good/as good as it should be. We love our current gen.

It’s not great, but most of the issues revolve around drivers taking off by flooring it, then immediately tapping the brakes.

Because no one on the internet would insult muh precious Mazda. It’s truly bad. I would rather drive our old Aveo.

but the real hard hitting question: would you drive an auto miata over it?
![]() 03/19/2019 at 08:34 |

Ah yes, the old binary driving method!

Yeah, just quit your job and get one closer and more convenient. Problem solved.

worked for me
:/

Yes, because the Miata is the reason journalists talk up otherwise shitty cars. If the CX-5 didn't sell, there would be no Miata.

I’m not that far behind him. I havent driven one fair, but I’ve been in them. and frankly, I was real disapointed in the interior . I’d expect that kind of shit quality from a ford or a chevy. Not a jap OEM

Hates cars that gets too much praise, buys GTI, it goes in the shop for a month.
There is some irony in here.

You gotta remember when gen 1 CX5s came out, Ford had a controlling share in Mazda, so you really have to temper expectations. Newer Mazda is another story.

My 2014 has been great road noise wise. The infotainment on this one is miles better than what my 2015 Mazda 3 had (very similar to current generation infotainment that sucks so badly). I guess it’s apples to oranges from gen 1 to gen 2.

Crossovers are popular, the average person wants them. The CX-5 is a great option for low to mid level trim crossover . We shall agree to disagree it seems.

yea, the one I was in was a 2017, sooo. really not helping their case.

It would be great if they A. Gave it more room up front. B. Gave up on the “sportiness.” C. Give it more power for the base engine.
![]() 03/19/2019 at 11:38 |

They praise the CX-5 because of it’s sportiness(which it doesn’t have), which makes it genuinely bad at being what it is. If you want the “racecar grounded to the ground” feel, with none of the fun factor, this is the car for you. They built this car for Camry people who base sportiness off of discomfort.

If all goes as planned it will just be this week. The CX-5 will sit under a tree in the yard until then.

Newer Mazda is the Hyundai story, looks really nice, but isn’t great to touch. But at least those are comfortable and honest about what they are.

What trim? Because the leather in the GT is pretty dang supple. Granted the cars I own are actually uncomfortable so when I drive our Mazda it's wonderful.

Hmm granted everyone is different, I got rid of my Golf R because my legs would actually go numb on 2 hour drives. But hey that’s the spice of life. I had my wife drive every C UV in the market from a CRV to a macan and the only one she liked was the cx5, and I was just happy she liked it. We just got a cx9 but that’s because of light towing duties for the broken idiot car.

My knees are too bent to be comfortable.
