My mother bought one brand new in 1985 at 19 years old, albeit she had a silver GT-S coupe. If I remember correctly it was a demo car so she got a good deal, and she went on to drive it for a solid ten or so years, before being replaced with a p eak 90's plum Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer.

Makeshift dash cover = cracked dash. Good luck finding any blue interior pieces for these. If you really wanted this vintage, I would hold out for the superior GT-S. That all aside, there was no better car I’ve owned in the twisties. 22RE was quite punchy.

But the other 95% of driving: hmmm, ehhh, sigh. Mine had no AC so if it was over even 71 degrees, you were cooking in that greenhouse. Heat pours through the transmission tunnel. Rear windows do not pop so there is zero airflow. The GT seats were unbearable. The sunroof leaked. The b-pillar leaked. The steering was that good old 80's slushy power steering, which was actually nostalgic. But over 90 mph — which it could easily do — the car felt like it was lifting off and the steering now did nothing.

But MAN did it look good parked.

Ah yes, I was super heavy on Oppo during your Celica days so I remember it fondly. My mother drove hers around Ohio for six years before parking it under my grandpa’s carport for two years while she lived in Alaska, and upon her return she discovered that it got a bad case of rust disease while sitting. Still, she drove it for another two or so years after she moved to Michigan before acquiring the Explorer.
