right? 3 vs Y from the order page. Scaled to same size as much as possible. I know this has been discussed everywhere on the interwebs but wanted to compare side by side myself.

So disappointed. The Model X is as homely as a car can look (I give the Kia Rondo a pass because it was cheap and unpretentious). Here is the “mini me” edition.
This isn’t even a crossover in the regular sense. This is an unholy mashup of a hatchback and an awful BMW GT. The key design flaw is too much vertical sheet metal, followed by too little ground clearance. It’s a bad combo. The Model 3 looks very plain, but I applaud the greenhouse.
Don’t give me any feedback about aerodynamics, either. For most EV duties (city/mixed driving) that should not be the #1 driving influence. Plenty of cars with sub-0.30 Cx numbers look perfectly normal.
/wish I could say all of this in a Tesla thread but there are too many

The model 3 is what I looked like in College, the Model Y is what I look like now. More of the same, but swelled.

I think so, and I also feel it is a big win aesthetically . My biggest issue with the 3's looks is that the stupid attempt to fit it with a trunk rather than a hatch means the rear window stops way to high. The Y doesn’t seem afflicted with that problem.

Might I remind everyone that the official Oppo term for this segment is SHIT .

Wow the Y look icky directly compared to the 3..
Thank God it will make the mass public feel safer because 2 extra inches on ground clearance lol.

The 3 looks best in Blue, even with those ugly eco-wheels.

That’s because you didn’t even go to College, right?

I did go to college. That was 20 years ago...

But aero is a big part of the reason they can claim range numbers. In EVs, range numbers are what the horsepower wars are to muscle cars, tow ratings are to trucks and Ring times are to hypercars.

True enough...but my prevailing theory is that eco-friendly cars have to “look the part” to be taken seriously.
Lots of cars 15-
20 years ago could meet the Prius’s coe
fficient without resorting to spaceship styling. But the car HAD to look weird because it was breaking new ground -- and to stand out from the crowd so people would notice it
. I feel the same way about Tesla at the moment.

Hate to be the devil’s advocate, but I almost appreciate its ungainly ugliness; it’s different without assaulting my eyes as Lexus does and it almost writes its own memes by just looking like a short, fat 3. It’s simultaneously futuristic looking and hilarious looking and just looking at it makes me giggle because of how stupid it looks.

That’s definitely a thing with the EV market for sure - they have to *look* green, so everybody knows that you’re hip and trendy. That was also one of the things I loved when Tesla released the Model S - it didn’t look like an EV, just a very attractive sedan. I like the look of the Model 3 as well (hell, I gave Elon a zero interest 1.5yr loan for it), but their “SUVs” really seem to fall into that tall, smushed unattractive EV shape.

That blue does look good. I might be the odd man out, but I kinda like the Eco wheels. More sidewall and have a funky look.

The line between crossovers and regular cars is starting to g et seriously blurred, not that it was really that well defined to begin with.
I mean, take off the Model Y’s black plastic cladding that makes its ground clearance appear higher than it really is, and it wouldn’t look all that much different from a normal hatchback. OK, so it does have a little extra ground clearance, and I guess the seats are a little more upright, but it certainly doesn’t have much of an SUV look to it at all.

kinda of a 90's “tall wagon” but for the 2020 electric crowd - honestly, it’s probably the most appealing model to me personally...
