I’ve worked on too many of them. Same with B5 S4s and a hundred other cars. I really liked them at first, and they’re a great platform, but after working on German cars for a living for a couple of decades I don’t like very many of them anymore. No offense, I know there’s an allroad or two around here, and they’re really cool when they’re right. But I don’t really want any local friends to have one, because I don’t want to work on them for free or fun, and they’re not a great choice for a daily beater unless you’re prepared to work on it yourself and have a serious parts budget. This 3.0L A6Q Avant I found for CaptDale is 75% the same car and is much easier to work on, all things considered.

I had a 44k mile 2.7T allroad in last week, immaculate, not a thing wrong with it. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want it. But I certainly wouldn’t recommend anyone else buy it.
