Introducing Mil es Monroe (after Woody Allen’s character in “Sleeper”) his momma decided she was only going to raise one of her twins. He was found almost literally frozen to the ground, but not dead yet! He spent an hour or so in a hot water bath, which un-crisped his ears and got his body temerature back up to about 96 degrees (sheep normal is ~102) and then spent another three hours stuffed as close to the wood stove as possible without catching him on fire. He seems to be pretty much OK. It amazes me how resilient these little guys are. He was under way when I made my earlier post, but I wanted to make sure his story was going to be a happy one before I introduced the cuteness.

More proof that wool really is the best clothing for cold weather.
Good show, Miles! And good show, Jawz.

I’m a rural, and yet I' m still amazed at the contrast between the absolute cuteness of a lamb, and the eye-rolling brainlessness of damp wool and panic that is a sheep.

Not all sheep are created equal. The Leicesters we have (border and blue-faced) have a bit more personality than many of the other production breeds. Also, A Sheep, is a much different thing from A Flock of Sheep. A Sheep is a wiley, quick, curious, and surprisingly charismatic small rumenant . A Flock of Sheep is a predictable, easily manipulateable, panic-prone eating machine.

woo-hoo! even though i’m old enough for a woody allen reference, i think i would have gone with Ice Cube, then i could have gone with Friday references relentlessly

Thats amazing. If it was a goat on the other hand it would die for no apparent reason.

‘A Sheep is a wiley, quick, curious, and surprisingly charismatic small rumenant.’
None moreso than those that do forward rolls to cross the very things designed to keep them contained

Many of our local sheep are Dorper cross. They are bred primarily for meat as the Dorper is a hairy sheep rather than a woolly sheep. The hairiness comes from the fact that there seems to be a lot of goat genetics in there.
The flipside to this is the fact that they are wilful, stubborn and, on occasion, sly. They quite often see fences and farm management personnel as mere impediments to proper navigation. The only appropriate response of a good farm manager is to eat the smart ones first...

Fence jumpers must be culled immediately. If sheep realize thier true ability to jump, easy containment is all over but the crying and cursing.

Agreed. I once caught a jumping two tooth (for the non farming Oppos... older than lamb, younger than sheep) in the chest whilst in the yards. If he'd have been any bigger he'd have damn near killed me.
Dorpers however don’t jump...they push and doze. Unless the fence is perfect...they will force a path through it.
