So ignoring the GT3/4/whatever specialty models, modern 911s are common enough that they fade into the background for me here in CA —I suppose this is one of the reasons I consider myself “graduated” to Italian cars for extra drama.
My friend’s triple-black 991 GTS, however, still manages to look quite special.
Sun’s finally out, so we took a detoured commute home.

There’s sort of an irony here about fancy sports cars in front of a place made famous by a socialist-leaning folk singer. That’s probably his Prius!

What’s the deal with Alice’s? Everybody wants to take their fun car there, but the roads around there are not that great IMO. They’re full of cops and CR-Vs going 15 mph. Would love for someone to explain

Don’t forget to take out the trash

The road it is on isn’t particularly special but it does connect to many good roads. Kind of like a good hub

The GTS is the best road-going 911 spec, much like the GS is the best road-going C7 spec.

This. It’s just the congregation of nice driving roads and even Skyline (CA-35) is not always bad. We weren’t actually planning to go there, but a section of 35 was closed due to subsidence .
So naturally, if you can’t go south, you go north. What, turn around? Who would want to do that?

Mine’s the cheap one, meanwhile, check out this fancy 911 right here!

Yeah I can get on board with that take. It’s lowered, has meaner wheels and doesn’t have any of the pretense/hypetrain/bro- status of the GT3.

GTS is sweet, but the black on black thing really doesn’t do anything for me.

Yeah that’s funny. Truth be told, it could’ve been a McDs and it would still be a popular congregating spot. I personally prefer In-N-Out .

One truly cares not about appearances if they drive a GT3 Touring in a muted color. Only the enthusiast will see it as anything different than a run-of-the-mill 911.

GT Silver is a great colour. It looks expensive with much more depth than other paint chips .

A car to which one has a personal attachment will always look special to the observer. I love the sexiness of a 911 but there is nothing particularly attractive about a 3X black 911.

I like the more honest styling of the 997, but I also like the more racy, slightly chopped-roof feel of the 991.
Nice spec on that 4GTS.

Yeah, if I ever have to replace it, I am going to die. 1321 C4GTS coupes period. Then it ’s a 3 pedal - s o 1 of 160 or fewer. Not many people opted for PDLS on these period. Silver wheels are disturbingly uncommon. Full privacy glass is harder still. Full leather interior with the ventilated seats? Icing on the cake. Making it probably a 1 of 6 or fewer.
But god damn does it have grip for weeks . I run well out of bolster before it runs out of traction.

yeah, and the metal flake is just slightly warmer - love it, (if I was in the market, I’d be really hard pressed not to get the silver...)

It might just be the angle, but I dislike the rear overhang on the 911 more than usual. I know there is an engine back there, but damn, baby got back.

Fuck, you’re making me homesick. I miss those brisket sandwiches. Nice Alfa. Seen quite a few red ones on skyline but I think after seeing yours I'm partial to the white.

Thanks. I’m impartial to the food at Alice’s but it’s a fantastic meeting spot.
I would normally go with red for sports cars, but for some reason the 4C makes me want to get a colour that lets the large round tail lights stand out rather than blend in.

Yeah the lens distortion ain't helping either. Look at how elongated my rear wheels are!

Good eye. Something looked off but I couldn't put my finger on it. Looks like a great day regardless!

Alice’s Diner, such a great spot to eat and car/bike spot. Been there a couple times myself.

The 997.2 is basically 911 Master Race.

That angle makes it look fucking massive.
![]() 03/14/2019 at 13:22 |

To be fair, the 4C is a very short (lengthwise) car with a very square (wide) footprint, so it looks diminutive next to a 911 even ignoring the distance factor here.
Putting a 991 next to a 997 also makes the 991 look a lot more massive.
The triple black plus the lowered stance of the GTS gives its silhouette a slightly gangster-chopped-roof vibe which I find pretty cool.

It looks great, don’t get me wrong! It’s just an interesting confluence of factors making it look like a big car, even though it’s really not. I have a 911 T and an M4 ZCP , so I’m used to the 911 looking like the small car in my garage.
