I love that this auction has been live for 4 days, has 444 comments, and the bidding is at $1,200 (which, frankly is already a CP).

Also that this car features missing bumper fillers, just like EVERY other malaise Caddy.

Lemons anyone?

Wow, I love Cinnabon

Fun fact - a Cinnabon has more power than the Cimarron.

But both are still more powerful than a Tercel

This Cimarron has 86 HP. I’m guessing the Tercel is probably at or above that?

But it doesn’t have L E A T H E R.

63 hp , when new.

I had a chance to pick one of these up for free some years back. It was in good shape but for having sat a few years. I didn’t accept it because it had a V6 and I only wanted it with an Iron Duke because indestructible and less complicated.

The Iron Duke never went into the J-cars.  The car in the post has the 2.0 that was in seemingly all ‘80s J-cars that didn’t get the 2.8.

I knew a couple people in the late 90's/early 2000's who had Cimarrons. While they were terrible Cadillacs, they made excellent $500 beaters.

Agreed though, $1200 is total CP.

Yikes - but the 3 speed slushbox in the Caddy is the great equalizer in a drag race at least.

Back in 1990, I worked for GM in Dayton. I worked with a guy who was an absolutely huge Cimarron fan. He had a burgundy one with the V6 that was in great shape for a ~5 year old car - he babied it.

When he told me how into those cars he was, I think I just scratched my head and walked away.

It doesn’t even have 3 pedals which makes it a CP in my book.

My mom was a long time Cadillac owner and I remember when these came out. There was one sitting in the showroom exactly in this color scheme, except it was a manual transmission. That’s what made it different from Cadillacs that came before it. Unlike her De Villes, it felt small and cheap.

Huh - I didn’t even realize it was available with a manual.

TBH I wouldn’t take any Cimarron even if it was free.  I’m a reformed GM fanboi and I fucking hate these things.

No, it’s not - 130 HP might have been a little fun though!

This was an OHV engine that originated in the 70s here in the US.

It was a GM plant. Most of the people in it had 20 years in at GM at that point, and the vast majority were GM fans. 3500+ employees and virtually all of them drove nothing but GM.

There’s no way it would be as comfy as an old Mopar minivan, though.

It’s been too long since I sat in an ‘80s J-car to remember for sure, but my ‘90 Sunbird was quite comfortable.  However, it had updated seats compared to this one.

The first gens were the pinnacle of comfort in minivans IMO:

Kinja'd!!!

Seats were like sofas!

Honestly I feel like car interiors today have lost their comfort, stiff/overly bolstered seats, combined with tiny sidewall tires make for a ride that is uncomfortable at best to god-damn awful in many cases.

Yeah, that’s what my dad had - same color interior even, although I’m pretty sure that the stitching on the cloth was a different pattern.

Having taken a few very long drives in it ( Chicago-Tampa non-stop for example), I can confirm.

My step granny had one exactly like that but rarely drov e it as grandpa drove most of the time . She put 35000 miles on it in 20 years. I used to sit in it and play with the power seats as a kid lol.

Her kids were too hoy ty-toyty to take it for free when their mercedes broke. She sold it instead for a few thousand instead.

To be fair, we got pretty big discounts on buying new GM cars, plus the peer pressure to drive our own products was pretty high.

When I took the job right out of college, I had an ‘84 Topaz that I parked in the salaried lot. It was a beater, so not a big deal, but I got plenty of encouragement to buy a GM car.

Heaven forbid you bought a new non-GM car - *especially* if it was a Honda.  We weren’t that far from Honda’s non-union plant in Marysville - close enough that people on the north side of town had neighbors who worked at Honda.

I thought they were all Iron Dukes. There was a company building high-performance Iron Dukes at one time, but I think they are defunct.

These date back to the last days when each division still had their own engines - the 2.0 (122) was a Chevy engine, the Iron Duke (151) was a Pontiac engine.  Even though you could get the Duke in a Chevy and the 2.0 in a Pontiac, because GM or something :)

My grandma had a huge old wagon and went one day to get a car without telling anyone, she got a blue one of those. She had a later one I think, it had cladding on the side.So maybe 87. It was like this, blue leather too, the leather smell was really strong in the car.

I’m guessing that maybe Cadillac sprayed some extra leather scent in the car, to highlight the primary difference between the Cimarron and the Cavalier :)

It was deeply dyed or painted blue, I think the smell was from that. I would get a headache from it. Ice cold AC though.
