I’d rather have permanent standard time. It was pitch dark this morning when my kids walked to the bus stop. I’d rather have the light in the morning than the evening. The days are only getting longer as it is.

This is a bad take - give me European summer time, where it’s light until 10.

If you can’t do it for yourselves, do it for me. Please. I fucking hate seeing EST be 13 hours away instead of 12.

We really just need to pick one or the other and be done with it. I don’t think is ever really worked as intended and their are studies showing it is actually harmful to our health.
A dumb idea that has lasted too long.

Alternative facts. There was no WWII, the Maginot Line held fast and the world community helped lift Germany out of recession.

Actually, me too. DST means I can hang out with my kids outside in the evenings. It’s 2/3 of the year already anyway. I’d perhaps understand if the year was split 50/50, but the switch to “standard time” for 3-4 months is just dumb.
![]() 03/12/2019 at 10:52 |

Split the difference? C
all it a half an hour and make the rest of the world adjust like Newfoundland Standard Time.
![]() 03/12/2019 at 10:55 |
|
But this shouldn’t mean that the rest of the country needs to adjust its time to accommodate this. Living further east or west in a time zone will also affect when the sun rises relative to your time.
Personally, I’d much prefer daylight in the evening after work when I am doing other activities. I don’t need daylight when i’m sitting at a desk in an office.

I think we can all agree that this would be better than all of our other current options.

As my dad used to say, “Do you want to eat breakfast or dinner in the dark?” I guess I prefer dinner.

Time is a construct of course, but i f there’s any point of reference that daily time should be built on, it’s the point at which the sun is at its zenith in the sky. It’s not an exact science, when you consider that solar noon is different for every longitude, not to mention our wacky time zone borders... But solar noon is the best foundation to reckon time from.
That said, I support a permanent standard time. Let businesses change their hours of operation if need be. It’s not that hard to do; s ome already have sum mer and winter hours anyway . U ltimately though , what’s more important than DST or standard time is to just stop changing it throughout the year. Just pick one for crying out loud!
![]() 03/12/2019 at 11:19 |

That’s more about where you are in the time zone, West to East. Sunset in Western Spain versus Eastern Serbia is almost 2 hours different at the same latitude in the same time zone.

It’s definitely preference. I’d gladly give up light in the morning to have some in the evening. It’s just terribly depressing to drive home from work in the dark...

Here’s a thought...
Use the position of the sun.
When it is directly overhead, that is noon. When it is 12 hours opposite, and the sun is directly behind your position on the earth, it is midnight.

Dr. Niedorf : Answer as quickly as you can... how old is a person born in 1928? [starts stopwatch]
George : Man or a woman?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Dr. Niedorf : [stops stopwatch and pauses] Why?
George : Specifics, Bob.
Dr. Niedorf : Okay, one more time. How old is a MAN born in 1928? [starts stopwatch]
George : Still alive?
Dr. Niedorf : [stops watch, pauses, nods] If a man is born in 1928, and he’s still alive, how old is he? [starts stopwatch]
George : What month?
Dr. Niedorf : [stops stopwatch] If a man was born October 3, 1928, and he’s still alive, how old is he? [starts stopwatch]
George : What time?
Dr. Niedorf : 10:00... PM! [starts stopwatch]
George : Where?
Dr. Niedorf : [stops stopwatch; now impatient] Anywhere!
George : Well. Let’s get specific, Bob! I mean, if the guy’s still alive, born in California, October 3, 1928, 10:00 PM. he 67 years, 9 months, 22 days, 14 hours, and... [takes Bob’s hand to see his wristwatch] ...and 12 minutes. If he was born in New York, he’s 3 hours older, n ow isn’t he?

Not yet, now that you mention it.
Rally though, they are normally in bed and asleep by 8:40 pm, and I'm in bed by 10:00 pm. Because of daylight savings, they aren't down until 9:40 pm, which gives me a whopping 20 minutes to myself before I have to go to bed.
