2017 BRZ Limited with Performance Pack, 1,039 miles, $23,958. It appears to have been some kind of display car/tester for Brattleboro Subaru for 1,025 miles but the free Carfax on autotrader says it’s clean. Does belonging to a dealer for 1k miles really knock ~2k off the value of a car? I’m not seeing a mark on it and it eve n comes with free weathertechs. Why is this worth less than a normal used BRZ with 10-15k on it?

I’m confused. The dealer is asking $ 23,958. The high end of the KBB Fair Market Value range is $22,934.

Seems to me the dealer wants more than the average 10-15k mile BRZ is selling for.

Here’s the deal it is cheaper than new but more expensive than used as it will be a 1 owner car, it will register as new which will help with resale and insurance rates.

Currently listed in my area for PP BRZs are a 2017 with 30k for $23k, a 2018 with 10k for $30k (lol, Patrick Subaru trying to get almost MSRP), a 2017 Series.Yellow with 9k for $26k, a 2018 with 2k and an accident history for $24.5, a 2017 with 37k for $22k, and this one. Past searches have listed clean PP BRZs typically around $24-26k depending on mileage.

EDIT: Did you specify BRZ Limiteds with the Performance Pack? Because the Limited trim commands a premium over the base Premium trim and then the Performance Pack holds the value up even further.

If it’s titled in the dealer’s name isn’t it a used car?

That’s nothing. This Bentley was a demo car from Bentley’s corporate fleet and they are knocking $100k off.  https://www.millermotorcars.com/2017-bentley-continental-gt-supersports-c-2414.htm

Pro tip, it's free if you take it for a test drive and don't come back.

That’s weird.  As a former seven year employee at Brattleboro Subaru I can’t think of a single time we truly kept BRZs on the lot, let alone as a “tester” or “display car.”   That being said, it was an excellent dealership to work for with trustworthy employees, so if it did come from there, I can at least attest that it was well cared for

I mean, a Bentley looses $100k in value the first time you turn the engine on.

But then you have to deal with these random guys in Ford Explorers following you everywhere.

If that’s a press car, its a huge CP.

Think of how hard some millennial drowning in student loan debt from Tufts beat on that thing for an Autoblog article.

I see prior year MBs with no more than a few K miles on them for 20%+ under MSRP. Few cars sell at MSRP, a prior year (or two) car with even a few miles just starts the depreciation ball rolling.

CP all day long. Do the math on the “lease special.” I don’t see how $3,350 for 60 months after $25k down makes any sense. That’s the price of the car and you have to give it back!

I scrolled down their page and used the KBB fair market value gauge at the bottom. If they didn’t set it right, there’s a good chance their price is set incorrectly on the web page.

Playing with KBB now they state that the higher Limited trim is the least expensive (it’s not) and that the base Premium trim typically lists for $50 more. I think something is up with their math on the BRZ.

Mind you this was a year ago, but when I was shopping for my BRZ last year the KBB/NADA list prices and the actual dealer prices didn’t agree at all, especially on the facelifted 2017+ models. KBB put fair market for a 2017 at like $24k, but when actually shopping anything below $26k was “okay, what’s wrong with it?”

This price is a couple grand lower than what used models with 10-20k more miles typically go for, that's what makes it suspicious.

Could be the problem. I don’t know how well the BRZ holds its value, but the WRX res ale values are insane.

48 miles, 1 owner, 26k.   https://www.patriotsubaru.com/used/Subaru/2018-Subaru-BRZ-for-sale-Portland-Maine-8866e56d0a0e0a6b04cc157912054f6b.htm

The BRZ doesn’t hold it’s value as well as the WRX does but it still holds it’s value decently.

I saw that one. Did not catch that it was only 50 miles. That one really has the spidey senses tingling. It shouldn’t be that cheap as a normal BRZ, let alone a 50th anniversary edition.

I’m about 25k short. I’m window shopping for now, I can’t afford to replace my Mini with a BRZ until this summer. If I could I would be all over it. Heritage Blue is my favorite color on the facelifted cars.

But on the bright side, if it’s a press car, it’s less likely to have carbon buildup in the engine.

What did it cost new?

Maybe the seller is being aggressive and wants it out of there, as opposed to other sellers who price high fishing for suckers.

With the Performance Pack they’re $30 grand new.

For reference, I spent months last year searching BRZs nationwide, the only time a 2017+ was below $26 ,000 was when it had questionable mods or something suspicious in the vehicle history report. I got the runaround from a dealer in Indiana on one that they had listed for $25,200 with no accident but “reported damage” on the report.

Definitely seems like the kind of car you want to buy new, or even for this low miles one, get a comprehensive PPI - too much danger of prior abuse.

Kinja'd!!! Dusty Ventures > fintail
03/12/2019 at 13:59

Kinja'd!!!1

Absolutely. In my case I couldn't afford new, but I had extra stringent requirements when searching. Any modifications at all were a no-go, as they suggested a higher likelihood of spirited driving at the least. Had to be on the first set of tires with ample tread left. CPO cars went to the front of the line. I ended up picking a 2016 CPO in Houston, still got a PPI even though it passed the CPO inspection.
