and another
and another, and at that point I decided it was time for some assistance.
that bar against the wall is ‘I’ll fuck your foot up’ heavy. I finally broke through....to water. This is going to be fun.
OSJ (OPPOsaudrus Jr) is in full W TF Dad mode.

Whatcha’ doing? Drilling for oil? Looking for water leaks? Searching for lost Incan gold?

Looks like new drain tile is in your future. I really don’t envy you.
What is this for anyways? Roughing in the plumbing for a toilet?

Trying to inst all a sump pump. Despite how college it sounds to have a swimming pool in your basement, it’s not cool

It’s easier to get through concrete with a hammer drill. I’m amazed that you got the bits hot enough to lose their hardness and bend. I’ve never accomplished that feat. When I lose a bit, it snaps.

You buy way better bits than I do. If any of mine got that out of shape they would just snap and make me glad I was wearing safety glasses.
Seriously though, good luck. That looks like “crap I wish I could afford to pay someone to do this” levels of fun.

Is not a hammer drill, just a regular drill.

I guess I didn’t say it right.
Hey, bonehead! It’s easier to get through concrete with a hammer drill!
:D

You shouldn’t wait until you bend 3 bits to bring in the proper tools.
I would have opened the beer after 1 bent bit, if not sooner.

Ugh. Now you can reward yourself for all your hard work, with a bunch of digging.
Do yourself a favor and buy a hammer drill next time. I recommend a used Milwaukee from the 80's-early 90's. They’re built like brick shithouses, and have enough torque to snap your wrist, if you’re not careful.

You could also say, another one bit the dust

Well at least you know it’s needed

yeah I used one before. Probably would have been worth renting one. I don't plan on doing this again

Yes I'm with you on that. I really wish I could pay someone right now

You have the correct approach to dyi with limited equipment. Dig some of the dirt from underneath. The spud bar will then make quick work of breaking up the rest of the concrete. Or a bfh.
I usually put a diamond blade on a circ saw to score the concrete. That is really dusty t hough.

I have a concrete blade but didn't want the mess so I went this way. The whole were enough to get it to break where I wanted, bits just not the easiest way

I like the turn of phrase “how college it sounds.” I’m going to use that.

Excessive effort

I saw your second post. Did you get it all dug? Clay is the worst. Tough it out is the only way to dig it.
When u plumb the crock I recommend a double pump set up. Most pumps sit inactive so long they don’t work when they are supposed to. I mount another pump with the float a bit higher. Just in case. Test them every fall.

its pretty close to being done . T he hole was filling up with water and getting pretty difficult to deal with so I stuck the buc ket in the hole with an old pump to start it going. I think there will be enough water in there so it will run pretty frequently

Good luck! Ours runs pretty frequently.
