For L ent, I decided to give up elevators. This means I’m climbing seven flights of stairs pretty much 5 days a week to get to my new office in an older, downtown office building.
After the third flight, I was definitely feeling the burn. Maybe I should have just given up beer. Nah, I need beer to live.

People have been asking me what I’m giving up for Lent. Maybe I should try that.

Change the wording: you gave up drinking beer while using elevators.

I work on the 3rd floor, and i live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building, usually when i park my car at work, i park on the 3rd floor. I never use elevators (3rd floor, and i’m impatient)
A really hilarious phenomenon happened to me recently though. The parking lot at work was mostly full, so i parked on the 4th floor. Well, upon returning to my car, as soon as I got up past the 3rd floor , i was winded. My body has apparently adjusted to walking up 3 flights of stairs with absolutely no problem whatsoever, but even the tiniest amount of work beyond that just totally winds me .

After careful consideration, I have decided to give up giving things up. It’s early, but I’ve been pretty successful so far.

I do this technique, but I’m not strong enough to do this many steps or on a regular basis. Down is easy though.

So, do you trudge up one at a time, or go doubles for speed (until you can’t any more)?

My office is 38 floors above the floor I park on. My legs would fall off on day 3 if I tried this.

One year I gave up meat for lent and ended up a vegetarian for 5 years. Since then I’ve given up lent for lent.

I am currently working on a 12 story apartment building. There are no elevators yet. Today I did 21 floors and 16,000 steps. Before 10am. I hate stairs and I admire your efforts.

I’m 50. My days of skipping stairs is pretty well past.

I think 7 is manageable; I used to have an office on the 5th floor of a building but there were only two elevators which were always really slow but also frequently broken, and I think you’ll get used to it after a few days.
I think it’s a reasonable goal, but I’d add in the fine print that this only applies to your office building. The way I see it, you’re climbing those steps at least twice a day if you’re going up, and then also going back up if you’ve left the office for lunch.

It’s been nearly two decades since I left Catholic school, I totally forgot that you had to give something up for Lent.
All I lament is the loss of having both Good Friday and Easter Monday as holidays; my employer only gives us the Friday. I suppose I’ve given up Easter Monday every lent since school ended, does that count?

Well, y ou don’t have to give up something. I mean, no one punishes you if you don’t.
I’ve never celebrated the Easter Monday as an official holiday. It’s not a thing in the US.
