Is the prior generation V60 a sports wagon?

Y ay or nay. If yay, does it apply to all iterations? Base, Polestar optimized, P olestar?

I’m of the opinion that it isn’t. A fellow gearhead who just bought one seemed a little hurt and said it was a sportwagon, he was including the entire V60 line.

A deeper question, what makes a sport wagon? Is an E63 a sport wagon? The E63 is really a big motor stuffed into the car, would it follow that the Demon is a sportscar/sports sedan ?

Why does someone need to go and call it a Sport wagon? A wagon is a wagon.

IMO, I’d consider only the T6 version and Polestar as sportswagens, and for me it has to be RWD or AWD in general. As for the E63 wagon, it has an equivalent Sports sedan so why not?

I consider sport wagon a made up term to appeal to people who couldn’t stand the idea of just driving a wagon. But in any event, I’m happy to apply it to any wagon that isn’t a dog performance-wise (and the Volvo isn’t). I don’t think it needs to a be a hot-version of anything.

He intends to autocross it. I don’t think it will be that fun to autocross vs a CTS V wagon or a 3 series wagon.

I think it was coined to delineate between those with sporting aspirations and those without, m uch like sedans vs sport sedans.

I think a sport wagon is any wagon you use for sport, possibly including carrying your equipment for other sports to the places where you do those sports.

There is that distinction, but I think it was more to differentiate them from the giant family hauling wagons of days past. And honestly, I think (at least in the US market), any wagon on sale is going to be sufficiently fast and good- handling to be considered sport, especially small and mid-sized ones. The V90 might be too big to qualify, at least without a really powerful engine hauling it around.

Sport wagon is just a very stupid marketing term that started being applied to wagons in the late 00s. Just as cringy  as BMW’s term Sports Activity Vehicle for their X models.

“ Sporty” not sports

It’s sportier tha n an old Ro admaster, it might be sportier than VW SportWagen but it's not a sports car, not a sports Wageningen. The chassis is kinda soft, it has a middleing amount of horsepower and it kinda heavy.

No, the S/d V60 is too cushy of a vehicle regardless of the trim. It’s a mighty find wagon, but Sporty is not how I would describe it.

It’s kind of hard to call any wagon a “sportswagon” unless it better greater driving dynamics.

Spec’ed as T6 AWD with sport package (swap to Michelin Pilots) - heck yeah. The rear suspension has a trick geometry that works like a simplified rear-wheel steering setup. Sport package has firmer springs/better shocks and roll-control.

I have the Sport Chassis on my 2015.5 T5. It is the same as the R Design which means it is 80% stiffer than the stock chassis, lower springs, stiffer shocks, bigger sways and a strut brace. It’s a fun car. A bigger rear sway bar will make it more fun as it will be a little more neutral.  I don’t know if that makes it a sportwagon or not.

I think most people who haven’t driven one would be surprised by how capable it is in the handling department.  A polestar tune would (which on the T5 is mostly a transmission remap) would make it more fun too.

Not a lot is going to be as fun as a CTS V.

I test drove a 15 v60 tonight, pretty pleased with it. I’m looking at a couple more tomorrow. 16s must be coming off lease there are loads of them with low miles in the low $20s.
