There’s a mystery brewing in Oregon... Because a complete incident report hasn’t been released 2 weeks later... Oy.

They were doing maneuvers in Portland last week when I was there. I was probably the only one who noticed.

Because a Russian propaganda agency would never  lie about things.

The people with their panties in a wad need to be more productive with their time.  Like start and chair an HOA for a retirement community.

You can’t prove it wasn’t!

That’s not really such a far fetched suggestion. There have also been very credible reports of what could only be called a UFO over the Pacific.

Those Navy tapes are super weird. It’s interesting that nothing has come out of them.

Not even a “weather balloon” story.

The 142d has a lot of pilots that need to maintain proficiency. That means a whole lotta sorties.

Or maybe another RST stole an Alaska Q-400.

It’s a simple enough story... There’s really not much “mystery”- it's pretty cut and dry.

Not usually. I just thought this one was fun because it’s calling a normal IFE procedure a “mystery”.

Unless the F-15 actually fired its missiles at some target and got damaged in some sort of battle.

Not likely.

That’s way more likely than a 40 year old jet having mechanical issues!

I haven’t seen all the comments but I thought the original story was that if the landing gear fault light was true and if the pilot landed and the gear collapsed, you would have a whole lot of munitions cooking off while a pilot is trying to do a zero/zero/ejection. In that perspective, given that the Pilot and the F-15 remained intact, wouldn’t this be a pretty good day....

Gear failed to retract on takeoff, wingman supposedly reported the nose wheel was cocked 90 degrees, IFE was called in, several hours of figuring out what to do ensued, munitions were expended in the Pacific, jet landed without incident. Investigation is underway... Don’t expect to hear anything for months.

With the potential for a gear failure on landing at an international airport, it’s a good idea to get rid of all the explody  bits!
