The hangar is full today. The big one is our newest A350. There is a 757-300 tucked under its wing and that tail you can see way in the background is a brand new A220.

Do you have a procedure for this, or was this spontaneous?

I'm surprised the Boeing is getting along with the two Airbuses.

that looks way too close for what those are but i guess you are either touching or you are not. I’m always amazed at the size of hanger.

Do you have a hanger stuffer, like the guy on the Tokyo subway platform?

It’s a little insane how much bigger the A350 is then the 757 while, from my seconds of research, only holding about the same people...

But why would you want to delete the airplanes?

I’ve never thought of the 757 as small, but wow, the 350 is biggly.

I realize the perspective is skewed, but that is one hell of a winglet!
Other winglets, or wingtips if you prefer.

Really, sometimes you need to just take someone under your wing.
![]() 03/06/2019 at 14:55 |

When I see almost entirely 737s, a 757 is a monster (at least for a single-aisle plane). To see it tucked completely under another wing is pretty crazy.
FYI, I know you fly free (or cheap), but Delta is doing Basic Economy fares ATL-SFO all throughout the summer for under $200 RT.

Airbus, Airbusses, Airbusi? Anyways, They are cool. Also, yikes thats a tight fit. Expensive if someone misses the slot as well.

Basic Economy

Yep, the class invented because Delta, American and United had a meeting and said “Can we match Southwest’s 20-minute gate turnaround time and fun-loving spirited crew members?”
After 15 minutes of laughter, the CEO said “Remove the padding from the seats and squeeze them 2" closer.” Then he retreated to his underground lair.

You misspelled “Spirit Airlines” :) That’s who the penalty box fares are targeting.

That won’t happen until they try to sneak a Cessna between them.

Yep, and Frontier. Or....Allegiant. Or others.
I was just telling someone how I was pricing out a Frontier trip for the family out West. Once I factored in all the up-charges (vs Southwest) it was only about 10% cheaper...and had 3 flights a week vs 2 flights a day.
People often overlook how cancellations work. I try never to take the last flight of the day if I can avoid it. The last flight for 3 days? No way. I just don’t have that much faith in a discount carrier rebooking me on a competitor.

Wow, somebody got out the really big BFH to fit all those in!

first time I flew anywhere was on a 757 (DTW-DCA and back.) when we landed back home, we taxied to a gate right next to a 747. I peeked out the window to see what was there, and looked up. and up. and up. and up.

Yeah, generally speaking, once you add in baggage fees and whatnot, you’re pretty close to regular economy fares on most of those carriers. They only save money if you pack lightly and don’t care where you sit.

Yeah, I’ve been traveling on business for nearly 30 years and this is so, so true. On top of that, the cancellation rates on those airlines tend to be higher than the big legacy carriers, I believe.

Indeed. The 75 has some tall gear.

So this is where you remove the manufacturer stickers from the planes and put new oil & coolant in?

I can’t seem to find a comparable infographic for the A350, but since winglets are an option on the 757, I’ve found this:
For an A350, all I’ve got is “The wingtip device curves upwards over the final 4.4 m (14 ft). (of the wing) ”

That 350 is sexxxy. I see them occasionally in BOS, EWR and JFK, always catches my eye.

It is a good looking plane.

We have parking plans. Not saying there isn’t a bit of pucker factor.

The seats are all the same. It has more to do with when you board and change fees. The IFE, seats and all that are the same in all coach.

Airbus calls them sharklets. The 767 winglets are 11 ft tall and would make a fun kids slide.

The DOT agrees with your assumption.

Yeah, for that and a host of other reasons, I stick with legacy carriers - living in Chicago, that means American, United or Southwest. I love Delta, but they’re just not convenient here.

IFE? Internal Fluids for Engines? Inertial Flight Equipment? Interior Fuselage Examinators?

I guess I didn’t realize there were 757s still flying domestic passenger routes, it’s been sooo long since I sat in one. Always was one of my favorites. Thanks for posting!

We have plenty.

Thanks for straightening that out. Doesn’t sound like much of a penalty to me...change fees were (and are) a normal part of the business for most carriers. That’s just something that Southwest waives to stay competitive because their rates aren’t as cheap as they used to be. I almost exclusively fly Southwest out of BHM. I love Delta, but only for times when I drive to ATL first (like transatlantic)
. If I leave from here, the 35-minute mandatory connecting flight to ATL just seems wasteful
. I don’t pay full fares for Comair to lose my bags on the first leg :D
![]() 03/07/2019 at 19:10 |

When flying internationally check and see if leaving from BHM and and connecting might be cheaper than just flying out of ATL. You could save a bunch. Revenue Managment has reason for doing this, but I don’t understand them.

I have definitely seen this phenomenon, but it seems to have gotten more rare as the pax software has improved. I used to call it the “inconvenience discount” for having to make that extra connection. I still see it for major inconveniences (like BHM-CLT-PHL-LHR for the masochists) but very rarely on the BHM-ATL leg. I guess there are enough people willing to pay for the flight and save MAYBE 30 minutes of travel time vs driving (once you consider TSA lines and early arrival at the airport).
