Gumbo yesterday
Came out delicious. It was especially successful as it my was first gluten free roux. Sweet rice did the trick. Hush puppy and catfish. Rebirth Brass Band for music.

Same to you! This is the first year in over ten that I get to avoid the crowds. My wife loves to go to at least one parade. I prefer to avoid them if I can. This year she’s out of town, so I don’t have to go. Yay!

Could be the lighting, but that rue g otta be darker and stur, stur, and stur for hours as to not burn it. My mother could make a gumbo rue unlike anyone else and told me the secret is how you make the rue.
Those hush pups got me drooling!

Full honesty:
1) hush puppies are even better than they look. I surprised myself
2) you’re absolutely right on the gumbo. I need to just burn a roux to get the fear out of my system and see where it actually does burn . I’d blame it on it being my first try using rice flour, but that’s not true

Nope. Not going to do it! I’ve been to at least one parade every year for over a decade and I can’t say I wanted to be at any of them.
My wife and I went to the Endymion Extravaganza a couple of years ago. It’s was an amazing time. W e got to see one of the best cover bands I’ve ever seen. Seriously, they rotated singers in so they could go non-stop for over two hours.
That was sooooo much better than dealing with the people at the parades.

Freshman year at Tulane we were idiots wh o had no idea what we were doing. Than a grad student I knew with an apartment a block or two off St Charles invited me along. We just ate and drank all damn day, with no worry about crowds, or bathrooms, or any of that. It was fantastic. But if you don't have that prime spot, it's a mess.

It’s definitely a mess. We try to go to a mid-day, family friendly parade, but over the last few years, we’ve been surrounded by drunk college students or blocked off by ladders. It wasn’t that long ago that we could arrive a couple of hours before the parade and get a decent spot. Now you have to camp out the week before.
