...except the slider is sliding the wrong way.
Snapdragon 835, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, pure Android 9 Pie. US $649 pre-order price.
Much better than those morons from TCL BlackBerry Mobile wanting $749 for a Snapdragon 660 and a new coat of paint. Oh and did I mention the “software company’s” phone is still stuck on Android 8 with no announcements about Android 9, when Android Q is happening like next week or so?
F(x)tec did say they are considering a portrait version, so I really hope this version does well enough to warrant it.

I like the landscape slider, it reminds me of the Droids.

My last landscape slider was my Nokia N810, and a brief stint with the T-Mobile Galaxy S Relay. Had to return the latter because for some reason it kept corrupting SD cards.
The orientation is great if you use stuff like word processing, shell access or remote desktop, but majority of the time phone apps are still portrait. So as a messaging device, I prefer to stick with portrait, i.e. my Priv. Don’t have to rotate the phone every time I try to reply to messages or emails, just slide open and type away, vs. rotate, slide, type. It’s just a matter of fact that phone Android is still designed to be portrait.

Agreed. My old Droid 3 was easily my favorite phone. Give me a modern version and I'd be a happy man

Tmobile Sidekick.
Could always get that uber expensive Samsung folding phone. I just wanna look at it and see how it works.
I’ve got a Note 9, and I’m happy with it. I won’t be getting that folding phone. It’s too expensive for a phone.

I like it, trying to nurse my BlackBerry KeyOne through at least one more year though, I have a rule about keeping phones at least three years.

M y BlackBery Priv is onto its 4th year. It died once and it lived again with an extra GB of memory.

Mine had the screen fall off, the cell phone store repair lasted a few days, after which I attached it myself with Krazy Glue and its held for 6 months so far. The rubber backing started coming loose a month ago and some parts of the BB logo fell off , but I’ve put it in a hard case that conceals that and seems holds it together.
Otherwise, it works fine, though the battery life has definitely declined from new.

I’ll of had my Key One two years in October. I dropped it the other month and part of the metal case has got a ding in it on the top right. The only thing I’ve had to do with it in any form of repair was a scratch to the camera lens on the back, but the lens isn’t separate from the rest and is attached to the rear of the phone which just pulled off and replaced.
I’ll be sticking with Blackberry as long as they do phones with keyboards.

A friend of mine had quite a few KEYones going back for RMA, first 2 was for the screen issue and the others ranged from defective keyboards, stopped charging and randomly heating up. He was just telling me right now his keyboard would randomly stop working again.
TCL really botched BlackBerry Mobile.

Oh, man, that looks like a worthy successor to the Nokia N900. Now it just needs a stylus. And dual speakers. And a kickstand on the back. And a proper X server. And a GNU userland.

It is disappointing, because the initial impression was of a quality product. Good feeling materials, nice hefty weight, seems like a solid, well built phone. And it has been functionally reliable, but the build quality was definitely not there.
I had a Motorola Moto X before this with overheating issues, though, in that case, I assumed it had something to do with when I dropped it on concrete and it split in half down the middle. It went right back together again with a click, but never quite ran the same.

I’ve been wanting a phone with a physical keyboard for so long. give it to meeeeeeee

This is relevant to my interests.

Thing is it’s not just the KEYone. People are reporting issues with the KEY2 as well, and once again with the keyboard. Malfunctioning fingerprint readers with bad space keys.
Their playbook is too obvious: preying on keyboard dwellers and BlackBerry fanboys with devices that went through way too many corner cutting.
Now to be fair... TCL is majority blame here , but IMO BlackBerry isn’t completely off the hook. The buggy Hub+ suite is theirs and I wouldn’t be suprised that they are charging way too much to TCL for them to build a product that is profitable.

are you gonna use that slider keyboard to slide into DMs?

It is very sad, this is my first smartphone with a physical keyboard after a series of iPhones and that Motorola, and I have to say I really like it. I think I type faster and more accurately with it than with a touch screen, and I like the way it works as as a giant track pad. But it might be my first and last BlackBerry, especially if there’s a better built alternative.

Im having a really bad time with Pie. My battery live has halved.

Th e company said they will be working with Lineage and Sailfish. The bootloader is unlocked.

Which one? I've had Pie for months on my Essential and it works just fine.

So much potential was wasted when they canned that project.

I have an S9+.
Also, I now feel the need to use a custom launcher because I think the Pie skin has a more toy-like color scheme

Well there’s your problem... Samsung, lol.
When it comes to smoothness and cleaniness frankly it’s only Google and Android One phones.
As for the colours, that’s on Google. They decided blinding people with bright white like in iOS was the way to go... but they finally realized that was stupid so they started incorporating dark mode in apps, citing “battery savings” (No shit... Sherlock) .

Alright.... I’m not happy about it, but I “pre-ordered” this. Previous phones include: TouchPro2, Droid 2, Droid 3, and Droid 4...
