The wood is the only thing holding the hatch open

Kinja'd!!!

1995 Honda Passport; 3.2L V6 + auto + four wheel drive. It needs a tuneup, a good cleaning (tackled the interior today), weatherstripping, new hatch struts, a fender flare, and the driver’s side passenger door doesn’t open, but, for the price of a gift, it’s a great deal. I already love it; it looks like the perfect daily driver/occasional beach/moutain/tailgate combo. The interior is basically mint, and the rear tailgate setup (despite the sagging hatch) is awesome. AMA in the comments.

I've never seen this generation passport. Looks awesome. How many miles does it have? How are you going to fix the door?

184,000 give or take.

That’s a good question; it won’t open from either side, making it difficult to get the door panel off. I’ll probably look on Youtube or some forums and find a way to get the door panel off; I’m assuming it’s something in the locking mechanism which won’t release fully, or the something with the handle that’s broken.

That body style is great. I’d be very interested in that, a 96-ish Nissan Pathfinder or a 96-ish Isuzu rodeo. Love those.

That is awesome. I’ve been casually looking for either a Passport or Rodeo for a while as they’re pretty nice small (but not too small) vehicles for light off road/exploring duty.

I didn’t realize P assports used to look like this! As a known Rodeo/Trooper lover, I think you made out great.

The driver door not opening seems like a serious issue, no?

Always liked the Rodeo. How is parts availability on these?

Whoops, meant the driver’s side passenger door.

You should get one; let’s make this the new Official Oppo Car of 2019.

I’m in NC; they’re common enough that I don’t feel the need to drive a couple hours for parts. Thanks for the tip though.

Not bad; they were the best selling “import” SUV in the US for several years. Plus, many of the parts are shared with the Isuzu pickup, Amigo, and second gen Passport/Rodeo.

You should trade your Fit for one.

I personally prefer the simplicity of those to all of the different options seen on newer cars.

This and Rodeo are the same car; as far as I know, only the badges, grill, wheels, radio, bumpers, and d-pillar coloration are different. If you’re cross- shopping the two, just buy whichever is cheapest.

Ha! I think the 2019 Oppo car is a used TDI sportwagen. Atleast 2 or 3 of us have already bought one (including me)now that they got the emissions fix approved.

That’s put a dent in my adventure- mobile fund, but maybe in next few months I’ll get the itch to really buy one.

I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I saw one in Ohio.

My completely  uneducated guess would be to try to remove the latch from inside. Or maybe some panel like a speaker.

Based on the forums, there are two sets of screws to remove the panel : around the latch and around the speaker.

Not a bad guess.

The Isuzu Rodeos were the same and pretty common, but the Passport is definitely a little more obscure.

Very nice! I always liked those “snowflake-ish” wheels on them. I tried to buy a similar Rodeo a few years back for a song but the guy backed out on the sale and kept texting me wanting to hang out (??).

I’ve always been a 4Runner guy, but have discovered that most of the other 90s/00s Japanese SUVs were just as good and can be had for  much better prices. I just picked up a one-owner 2004 Pathfinder 4x4 with 108k miles in November and have been driving the heck out of it. Enjoy your new project!
