Rental Corolla!
For a base trim economy car, it is surprisingly peppy and responsive. 10/10 would buy before that hunk o’ shit Buick Enclave or whatever the fuck SUV that thing was that I rented in Texas.
But seriously, Toyota, we need to talk about that whole bumper/grill/front end mess you have going on there. You need to clean that shit up, post haste.
Just a thought from a long time customer.

The last corolla I drove was a 2006 or so and I hated it.

I call it their large mouth bass design phase. It’s like every kid who grew up with a Billy Bass is designing for Toyota now.

They’re still the same thing. Okay, maybe it has a new dash, but I’m not kidding, it’s still the same engine.

You should have demanded a “luxury” car. The Golf is too nice to get stuck in an economy car.

The Corolla is one of those cars that gets a ton of undeserved hate. It’s a perfectly adequate car. And for most of the people on the road, they don’t need anything else.
How is the CVT in that? I wish they still offered a geared automatic, but I understand why they don't.

That's one of the things I don't get. You would think Toyota would want to put a modern, efficient engine in there. But I guess that's what the Prius is for. And really, Toyota can do no wrong with the Corolla, it's pretty much sales-slump proof

Why do you hate IM so much?

I think the Corolla improved a lot with this generation. I always hated the prior one with it’s bad interior and old 4 speed auto.
I rented one of these for a road trip and can see why people buy them. It was comfortable, efficient, and just works like a damn good appliance. No, it not the car for us people, but I have no issues driving or recommending one.

Unless it’s the 2012 S manual we owned. That POS deserved EVERY bit of hate anyone wanted to offer it.
Abysmal little shit can. No power, terrible to drive, terrible ride, creaks/rattles everywhere, horrid fuel economy. That’s all before I mention the 2 engines and 3 transmissions that got replaced in the 85k miles we had it.

Their whole business is not changing what they know works and just pumping out the same shit, year after year. Look at the Tacoma. I don’t think that has changed in fifty years, save for some new LEDs. And they’re laughing all the way to the bank. I’m sure all of their tooling and R&D for their whole line was paid off years ago.
But that’s why I’ll never buy a Toyota product, they’re terrible value for money. They just sell nothing but outdated products.

I haven’t been in a new Corolla, but the inside looks as cheap as our 2012 Corolla S we had, which was a hateful little rattle can that made my 25+yo Mopars look like pillars of reliability.

I finally saw one of those Corolla hatches on the road this week, in that gorgeous blue that they have now. No idea how it drives but it looked great.

The engine was the real let down for me.

I haven’t driven a Coro lla since 2003- when I traded my ‘96 Corolla for the ‘03 Mazda Protege 5- I miss that car ( The Mazda- not the Co rolla .. .)
