This summer is the time. I’m buying a new 2001 dash with the non-soft touch crap and replacing my 2002 sticky dash. This also requires buying center console pieces (as they are sticky), plus the trim around the gauge cluster. Personally, I think the ‘01 dash looks better with the satin accents that match other parts of the interior.

I’ve looked up and researched all the other ways people have tried to get around this problem, but screw it: the stock stereo CD player and tape deck don’t work (none of them do, apparently), and the rest of the interior is too nice for me to stare at sticky fingerprints all day. So I’m going to throw up my hands and replace all the paneling and stereo.

There are used ones on ebay that are in “great but not exceptional” shape that could save me a pretty penny. But here’s my experience with ebay on used car parts, summa riz ed:

I’m tired of looking at the fingerprints of the guy who replaced my windshield — among other flaws — on what is otherwise a very pleasant car to be in.

Land Cruiser fund? Audi TT fund? ZZW30 fund?! Forget it: let’s throw more money at a 17-year old Paseo, because I somehow don’t have a problem with that.

I’d love to have a late 80's Land Cruiser and a TT. I would also like a 4th bedroom on my house. The bedrooms are really small and it would be nice for everyone to either get an upgrade or for my daughters not not HAVE to share a room (even though tye have said they would still share anyway)

As long as you are dreaming, I’d say ditch that little room on the right side, and instead pursue: SYMMETRY

Maybe a little boring but also classic and less jumbled. Save that copula for the garage (would need to know the lot layout to know where I’d put that).

You know, when you were asking about whether you really needed to but enough into your 401k to get a full match, I thought about mentioning IRAs, but held off. But yeah, you’re right, you really should be maxing your IRA as well. Probably the Roth IRA, but check which makes sense for you. Regardless, that’s another $6000 (plus  a further $6000 for the wife)! In any event, it’s not fun but it is sort of important.

it drives me nuts that the windows are not equally spaced. the garage would probably go off to the left and face to the side.  The existing room to the rigth steps back a few feet so it would take a lot of extra work to get it liek you have shown.

Note that in my example, the window over the door is supposed to have the same distance to the windows on either side, that it looks different is just a limitation of a quick edit in mspaint. But yeah, the non equal spacing between the 3 on the existing building isn’t great, I think this hides it a bit? In the fantasy world where my version got built, you could replace it with a smaller rectangle, circular, or oval window to further differentiate it to eliminate the unequal spacing.

And yeah, for my “design”, you’d just have to tear down the existing side room and start fresh (maybe part of the foundation can be reused?) That probably means basement expansion, which would no doubt be ludicrously expensive, though maybe it could be built on pilings or something? I don’t really know what’s required, though I assume it’s more complicated than just pouring a slab, which is expensive enough on its own.

you might actually be able to pair up some new floor joist s to cantilever out off the foundation to avoid any foundation work. around here, because of the freeze/thaw, the foundations have to go down below that to a minimum of 4'

I need to do the sticky parts in my car. I was going to do it this winter but I’m very behind on my projects. I want t0 DIY is but the professionally refinished parts are so nice. It will also be like $2000 so I’m holding off for now.

I read all the stuff on IS forums as well. I cheaped out and cleaned everything up, taped it off, and sprayed it with black satin dupli-color vynil spray. About half a day’s work and looks passable. More durable than before, won’t fingerprint or smudge, will scrape without working too hard at it.

I read the online about removing the dash to replace or refinish, just couldn’t muster up the energy to tackle.

My stereo worked when I got the car in 2015, but CD then cassette died.  I got a single din that could match the orange dash light color pretty well.  I like having Bluetooth for my phone and music, but miss my cassette player.

I mean for some other unlucky Lexi owner who may need a replacement. Probably fetch good money for a nice, refurbished dash that’s OEM quality.

The coatings I use were developed with Lexus in the loop. They wanted something suitable for warranty repairs. As far as I know it may still be the only approved coating for warranty repairs with Lexus and one of the Germans.
